Hi,

I believe the unzip and throw away the zip file is controlled by the
Safari preferences under general.

If you uncheck like below then zip files are not touched.

You are normally asked this the first time you download a file with
Safari, so, depending on how many upgrades etc you have done this
could have been years ago.
