Maybe there are tab characters hidden in some (non-pragma) preference descriptions?

I don't think that we need a "replace all tabs with spaces" processing step in the wizard... better fix those original data. :-D Old-style preferences have their state not in code but in the image only. A post-script plus checkpoint in the update map might help. Not super-important, though.
