 404 has BIG changes. In fact everything after 356 is largely
experimental/incomplete and definitely unreleased.
By all means try it (or just grab fixes from it), but even if it seems to
work, don't trust it :)

Result. That did the trick. Thanks.
Hadn't noticed I was that far behind. Guess a release thing (hang on loading
404 from 355, may be a problem with MC 1.5 though (have tried to keep up
with kph's changes).

Ok, I see. The string is truncated.
Almost certainly this is due to the widthOfString... method. 
You could try the most recent incarnation of this method, which I have
attached.
This is a tricky one to get right, so there are no guarantees that it is now
correct. But give it a go, it may improve things, even if it doesn't fix it
completely.

I have attached 2 pngs, one with 356 and the other with 355.
With the list font as Arial 10pt, you should see something similar.

Perhaps I have misunderstood the problem? Are you getting truncated
characters with the right hand side missing? Or something else? Could you
post a screen capture to illustrate the problem? I may have another fix for
whatever is happening.

356 looks much the same for me. I have modified StringMorph etc (for the new
look, as "fixes") to set the bounds, when shrink wrapped to the minimum
extent reported by the font. Perhaps that calculation is a bit off. Just a
thought...

The kerning in the last released version should be ok in HintingNone mode;
but it is incorrect in HintingLight mode.
I fixed this in
<http://www.squeaksource.com/FreeTypePlus/FreeType-tween.356.mcz>
FreeType-tween.356.mcz which you can get from SqueakSource. 

After loading, switch to HintingLight mode in the Preference browser. (If
you already have HintingLight selected, then switch to HintingNone, and then
back to HintingLight - this will clear any caches).

Would be nice to get the kerning sorted, though doubtless would be harder
work! ('r's at the end seemd particularly prone).
