oh, there's another pro, that you don't have to worry that any value
stored at location > sp is left unitialized. This simplifies the GC
code for visiting the stack to a simple loop from the beginning of
stack to the current stack pointer. ( Visiting the code stack, tracked
by fp is done separately).
