Integrating The Weekly Squeak in the main Squeak site

Hi, Ken Causey tipped me on IRC that you're planning of adding a news section to the Squeak.org site. It could be a good idea of integrating the Weekly Squeak in the main Squeak site. Ken provided a lot of good suggestion, and I agree with most of them. You can find Ken's suggestions here: http://tunes.org/~nef/logs/squeak/06.02.15 , starting at 14:01 . So, if you think that TWS could be a valuable addition to Squeak.org, we can discuss how to integrate it in the Smallwiki server. Regards, Giovanni

However, the group software required that I join the SqueakRos list. The message volume was low, until recently, so I never bothered to unsubscribe - even though I can only get a dim idea of what's being said (i.e. there's a lot of commonality across English, French, Spanish). It would be good if you could post an occasional summary here, of what's going on in SqueakRos. Or, maybe submit something to "The Weekly Squeak". BTW, I tried SqueakLight3.8.1 but it seems that it does not have (out of the box) the ability to reach SqueakMap. Looking for a temporary replacement

Hi guys, My last two finals are quickly approaching (they're both on the 31st), I have to concentrate on those exams and on my graduation which should happen in February. So for the coming 6-8 weeks I can't work on the Weekly Squeak. If any of you can step up and take my place until the end of February, we can keep producing it. Otherwise, TWS will have to go on a two-months hiatus. We could also make a call for help in the various mailing lists. Any questions/comments? Giovanni

Unfortunately there are some compatibility problems between the HTML generated by the Swiki and the one accepted by Squeak People. Since I don't have the time to correct this problems, I just post a summary on Squeak People :-/. We are planning to move from the Swiki to a custom Smallwiki 1 server, and I'm going to test this new server during the coming holidays. The new server will allow us to provide many new features, including full-content RSS feeds. So I'm asking you to be patient for (hopefully) one more month. Unless, of course, you want to join the News team and help us with the transition :-) Regards, Giovanni

News Team Report - November 2005

The purpose of the News team is to publish news regarding Squeak development and use. It aims to provide a service to the Squeak community, highlighting anything which the Squeak users may find interesting in The Weekly Squeak newszine. It will also try to promote Squeak outside its own community, by submitting articles and news items to mainstream websites such as Slashdot and OSNews. There are some highs and a couple of lows in the news team activity for the month of november: High: we managed to reduce TWS' lateness to just one day. Low: soon after this, I had some personal problems which caused some more lateness in publishing TWS. I'll try to reduce that during this week. High: we've added the Seaside mailing list to our mailing list roster. High: we managed our first "scoop" ;) with Ron Teitelbaum's interview to Bruce Tate. Low: I didn't have any time to seriously investigate using Smallwiki 1 as the publishing platform for TWS. TWS' ongoing lateness is a sign that I (Giovanni Corriga) am still a single point of failure for the whole TWS publishing process. I hope that the new Smallwiki server will help in this regard. For the coming month, I'd like to add one more column to The Weekly Squeak. I still have to discuss this with the other news team members, though. I'd like to thank Giovanni Giorgi, Ron Teitelbaum and Klaus D. Witzel for their precious help. Giovanni
