Against package removal before packages work correctly

I just tried to install SmaCC-Development from SqueakMap into a fresh 3.6 image and I got an error because SmaCC tries to add a method to TestCase which no longer exists in 3.6. Why are we removing packages before the package infrastructure is completely implemented (including dependents)? It doesn't make sense. Cheers, Anthony

Hi all, I am trying to make an animation where a sword is kept on an anvil and i am hitting it with a hammer. After positioning them I try to do the following animation. rhrd_rightHand1 roll: right turns: 1/4. hmd1_hammer turn: down turns: 1/4. hmd2_hammer move: down distance: 1/7. hmd3_hammer move: forward distance: 1/3. down_w doTogether: {rhrd.hmd1.hmd2.hmd3.}. rhru_rightHand1 roll: left turns: 1/4. hmu1_hammer turn: up turns: 1/4. hmu2_hammer move: up distance: 1/7. hmu3_hammer move: backward distance: 1/3. up _ w doTogether: {rhru.hmu1.hmu2.hmu3.}. hit _ w doInOrder: {down.up.}. hit start. hit loop: 2. hit loop. hit stopLooping. After the animation the hammer moves more backwards and down. so to reposition i try to run the following code. hm _ hammer move: up distance: 1/3. but i get an error saying : "squeak doesnot know how to move the hammer up as a parallel animation is not a valid direction". [VM]New VMMaker package released on SM

I just updated the SM registration for VMMaker to point to the newest version. NO earthshattering changes in functionality, just a gathering up of a lot of stuff to try to make it more tidy. One change that might affect people (and that can be rolled back if it really bothers anyone) is the change of 'TestInterpreterPlugin' to 'SmartSyntaxInterpreterPlugin' simply because the former seems really stupidly out of date after several years. Another change to watch out for is that this release DOES NOT include the Balloon3D code; this has been separated out so that it can be administered more easily by Andreas without us having to spend too much time coordinating. Expect a load script to pull in all the bits some time soon. Finally, you do still need to load the DeclarativePools package until it makes it into the update stream. The older package is still available in case of problems. Windows VM memory allocation?

I have 512Mb memory installed in a Windows ME system. On Windows, I fill a Squeak image with lots of data, and save it in a 230Mb image. On Linux, I can load this image with no problem. On Windows ME on the same machine, I cannot load the image. I tried loading it on another computer with Win2K and 1Gb memory, and get the same result. On my Windows ME system, the system monitor shows 366Mb physical memory unused before running Squeak. The system monitor show Squeak VM grabbing all but approx 130Mb of physical memory when it runs (plenty left). Hello! This last days I was experimenting by modifying the VM. Without the fix proposed by Craig this was impossible. I can only provide a feedback as an end-user: I spent the whole last week to implement a new method lookup without any problem. I was playing a lot by putting a "self halt" in the method Interpreter>>lookupMethodInClass:, or by holding the process running the VM by pressing alt-. recompile some methods, and then resuming the process. I didn't encounter an problem. It really works as I may expect. The only point perhaps is it is slow, but I think it is not related to Craig or Anthony fix. Hoping it helps... Magma Howto?

Hi! I'd like to develop a small application with Magma and seaside (for more information: http://swiki.squeakfoundation.org/sea/90 ). I'd like to know if I got the following things right: I have a class "DIADataHolder" (DDH). At the moment, it is the point where I store various collections. Later, I plan to switch to Magma for persistence. Say, I have a collection, where I store articles. I have an lister class how shows this collection to the user an gives him the possibility to edit a particular article. Is it right to open a session, get the collection, begin a transaction on opening of the editor and to commit it on save? How do I disconnect a session when using seaside (where it is not guaranteed that the user presses the 'quit' button)? What, if two users could work on the same collections? Is there a reason for MagmaCollection not having a "fullblown" Collection interface (like "do:", "addAll:")? Help or pointers to faq's appreciated (I've read "Getting Started with Magma", "Magma programming guidlines" and "About Magma Collections". Regards, Markus
