Just more money. And for the Croqueters in the bunch, or Croutons as I like to call them, they have 3D LCD shutter-type glasses and a head tracking device for ONLY $200 or so at http://www.edimensional.com. 3.6 full packages?

Hi Guys, I just ran into a very unfortunate situation: I have an image which has been built on top of 3.6 basic but some later code (written against 3.6 too) requires (a variety of) the full packages. My problem: I have no idea which versions of the packages at SM have been used when 3.6-full was built, neither do I know if their latest version will work with 3.6 (highly unlikely if they have been touched at all in the mean time) nor do I know where I would find those packages, nor do I know how to "extract" them (which may not be possible for all of them) from a 3.6 full image. Help! If you happen to know which versions went into 3.6 and if you happen to have a copy of said package please let me know. Cheers, - Andreas PS. God, how I wish I had a cached version of all of the packages that went into 3.6 full ... I wonder if we shouldn't ship the packages which have been loaded in full as "loadable" (e.g., cached) with the basic versions?!

Connectors on SqueakMap?

Hello! When I tried to load Connectors on Squeak 3.7, I got an Error message. I found a message in the archive of this list (http://lists.squeakfoundation.org/pipermail/squeak-dev/2004-August/0814 40.html) announcing a package working with 3.7. I installed the package available from there and everything worked. Could it be that SqueakMap doesnt have the actual version of connectors? Persistent components - with ReferenceStream ?

In BabyUML I have I have implemented my own classes for Behavior and its subclasses. BabyUML classes are regular objects and not stored in the Smalltalk dictionary. I need persistent storage of the BabyUML classes and their instances. I am trying ReferenceStream, but ReferenceStream seems to assume that all classes exist permanently in the Smalltalk dictionary. I am now trying to build a new version of ReferenceStream that stores non-Smalltalk class objects as regular objects so that they can be read and installed when needed. Any comments, anyone? BottomFeeder James Robertson Nov 3, 2004 7:00 PM Room 5115 Herzberg Building Carleton University BottomFeeder is an RSS/Atom news aggregator written in VisualWorks Smalltalk. In this talk I'll explain: -- what a news aggregator is -- why you should care -- Go over some implementation details BottomFeeder is a smart network client, dealing with XML, Http, XML-RPC, and SOAP. It's a free, open source application - many of the pieces can be easily reused in other application, including the HTTP layer (which handles authentication, mod gzip, and encoding issues), the online updating layer (which allows BottomFeeder to be updated on the fly). Questions will be welcome. The meeting will be held in Room 5115, Herzberg Laboratories (building 13 on the map <http://www.carleton.ca/cu/campus/map.htm> ). Whisker 1.01beta, and a simple process for handling SqueakMap releases

I just put a new 1.01beta release of the Whisker Browser out on SqueakMap, for those interested. This fixes a few bugs related to actions on instance variables when using 3.7, among other things. But mainly, I wanted to mention the way I'm releasing this on SqueakMap... I think this could be a useful way to do things for some other packages too. I'm still planning on adding a few more fixes to this release, so I've named this one 1.01beta, and I've left it unpublished. I'll probably put up a newer version sometime soon, replacing the .cs.gz file pointed to by 1.01beta. And then sometime after that, if it looks pretty solid, I'll rename the release version number from 1.01beta to 1.01, and then mark it as published. (SqueakMap lets you rename unpublished release version numbers.) After that, I won't change anything with that release anymore, I'd just create a new release if I needed to. This way, since "1.01beta" is unpublished and shows up in the SM loader in parentheses, it's pretty clear that it's a beta release which is not quite finished, but is still available for people to try (if the previous version is completely broken for example). This might be a good way for something like the BFAV package releases to be handled. IMHO it's a bit of a pain to have to go to SqueakSource to get the very latest version of a package like BFAV, if you're not used to using MC on a regular basis. (Especially if the last stable version on SM is broken by something in the update stream.) I believe there's a button or something in SqueakSource that lets you publish a new release directly to SqueakMap? It'd also be nice to have a button to just put out the latest SqueakSource code, overwriting into an unpublished release on SqueakMap. (Maybe this works already?) Perhaps this was the intent behind Goran's published/unpublished scheme anyway, but I thought I'd offer up these details as one way to do things. - Doug p.s. Actually, it looks like you can rename the version number for a *published* release on SqueakMap, too... which seems like it probably shouldn't be allowed. Add to Goran's low priority to-do list? ;)

How to deprecate classes?

hi deprecating methods is simple and works well. Now I'm wondering how we could deprecate classes? Let them in the image in a special categoriy and redefining basicNew to use the same deprecation mechanism? Any other idea? For example we could apply that to RuleDate classes to give a try. Stef
