The latest version was only posted to SqueakMap, but I have just now posted it to SqueakSource as well. 1) MaServerSocket>>listenOn:answer: I have no idea what happened to this method, but I have put it back. 2) MaServer>>processRequestByteArray: This is not missing, it just shouldn't be used as the do-nothing server stub. I have corrected MaServerSocket>>#initialize. Normally, your server will be doing something so you shouldn't need this method. 3) MaObjectSerializer>>classDefinitions: This is a Magma method, you should not need it for Ma client server. Is there some reason you need it for Ma client server? > How can I do to make a simple client-server test ? The version on SqueakMap includes a simple demonstration using the ByteArray layer. Install the one from SqueakMap and then find the files "clientTest.ws" and "serverTest.ws". Inspect serverTest first, then go to the client image, open a Transcript then run the script. spaces in SqueakMap package names?

I've just discovered an easy way to get Monticello packages to SqueakMap! By selecting a particular version for "Release" there is a "SqueakMap Release" button at the bottom. My "SqueakMap package name" has a space in it however, and am receiving error to the effect "My%20%Package not found on SqueakMap." I then tried creating a new SqueakMap package, "TestingNoSpaceInSmPackageName" and it worked like a charm. All of my packages have spaces in their names, should I rename them to without spaces? I need to create all new packages on SM to do this and then delete the old ones? Thanks..

[MultiRep-Monticello] Multiple repositories support for Monticello

Hi all, As I recently set-up a squeaksource server, I have written a small add-on for monticello that allow a package to be saved simultaneously on all its repositories (i.e. with the same version number). I made 2 versions : - MultiRep-Monticello.1.cs : 2 buttons : the 1st save to selected repository (like before), and the 2nd save to all repositories. - MultiRep-Monticello.2.cs : same as previous but there is only one button which opens a popup. It's as you wish. This add-on require a Monticello version >= 231 (note that on version 258 it removes the #checkForNewerVersions test added since 231). If you have any comments and/or suggestions, don't hesitate. Michaël

Keeping a Safe, Clean, and Current Development Environment

I'm relatively new to Squeak and as I have mentioned it in the past, I love it. However, I guess there must be some tricks of the trade that you learn either through experience or from others with more experience, and that's the reason for this email. I mainly use Squeak to develop Seaside apps. I develop on Mac OS and deploy to Linux. My development environment contains a bunch of Monticello packages and SqueakMap packages that I use most often. Although I haven't used Monticello as other have suggested for version control maintenance, I do understand the possibilities of doing it and will start versioning my apps with it. That way, I can also always have a standalone versioned release of my apps that I could load into other images. However, the question I have is, say a new image comes out (e.g. 3.9, 3.10, 4.0 etc), how can I migrate my entire development environment to the new image? I could file-in my apps that I saved in Monticello, but what about all the other packages I loaded? The stock full image (VM and image) seems to come with a .changes file, so the packages that I load will simply be added to that .changes file. Therefore, the .changes file will not only contain my changes, but also the changes that came with the original image I started with. I would hate to have to load each of the packages I normally use again for every new "environment" I setup. Any clues as to how I can simplify this process? Thanks, Daniel

Freelancer in .NL wanted

Hi, Quick question: anyone has some time on his hands to work on a project in .nl the coming 2 months (possibly more)? Due to holidays, illnesses added to regular project drift we're a bit behind schedule and we're setting out to disprove Brooks' "Adding more manpower to a late project will make it later". Project is open source, peer-to-peer, uses wxSqueak, so technically it's the project you always wanted to get paid for anyway ;-). We're all members of the Church Of The Pair Programmer in the project, so I fear you must be on-site. Regards, Cees

craving cryptography commentary

Now that Magma has power-outage security, I'm designing security to protect against hacking and would like to get feedback on the following approach. Basically, I want to punish senders of invalid or forged transmissions by blocking their IP for a period of time. The basis of this (punitive) defense is authentication. When member users are initially set up in the repository, the public-key of their key-pair is associated with their id in the system-area of the repository, the member guards their private-key. Every repository is also assigned a key-pair (to start the server the repository owner must have its private-key on-hand). Ordinarily, the simplest solution would be for clients to sign each request and the server to sign each response. Any incorrect signature would be rejected and the offending IP punished. Unfortunately, signing is not very fast: | message keyGenerator publicKey privateKey sig | keyGenerator _ ElGamalKeyGenerator bits: 128. privateKey _ keyGenerator privateKey. publicKey _ keyGenerator publicKey. [ message _ UUID new asString36. sig _ privateKey signMessage: message. publicKey verifySignature: sig onMessage: message ] bench Therefore, to maintain performance, digital-signature authenticatation is performed on a random message (UUID new asString36) only once, during the initial connection. Simultaneously, a DiffieHellman session-key negotiation also occurs in order to seed Random oracles on each end. All future transmissions must contain the next random number, hashed to avoid anyone guessing the seed or finding patterns, so the other end can more quickly verify it came from the party originally authenticated. (Maybe I should forget the DiffieHellman built-in key negotiation and just encrypt the random message and then sign it. The random message itself could then be used as the seed..). On the server-side, an incorrect next-random results in punishment of that IP (blockage for a period of time). On the client-side, an incorrect next-random results in immediate disconnection from the server with a Warning signaled. Commentary is greatly appreciated, Chris

Services for 3.9

I think we should put a Services framework in 3.9 as quickly as possible, this is really important for improving the tools, and would make simpler many packaging problems. Are there candidates other than Robbes Romain's? have people reviewed them? is there a list of known issues? From a quick look at this one (Services-Base), I have the following comments/questions: 1. It has a CLI thing that seems like it should be split off (should be optional, while services should become common infrastructure we can assume is there). BTW, the CLI looks pretty neat (assuming keymapper is installed), but I dont understand what the nextKeyStrokes: stuff does. 2. There's a couple of classes for subsets of the loaded code: SubSystemNaviggation, and PartialClass. Probably useful for specific services, not for the framework itself, so might be left out (or not) 3. There's a Requestor hierarchy. Having read most of the code and some of the comments, I haven't really understood their role in this. Are these queries specific to code? or is this something general to parametrize over how to handle requests that are usually sent to the user? if so, what is its relation to those used in various of the automatic installation tricks used for various packages? is there parallel functionality in ToolBuilder?
