Problem with ProportionalSplitters

Hi! I guess not too many use ProportionalSplitters to change the layout of windows these days, but they are broken in the latest trunk image. This is because the Method containingWindow in Morph has changed. The containing Window is now searched based on the model of the component, but ProportionalSplitters do have no model. A quick fix is to look up the owner chain of a ProportionalSplitter to find an owner that has a model. Most of the time (always?) the owner will be the containing window, so I don't know if the ifFalse: Branch is needed. I will publish this fix so ProportionalSplitters should work again until someone with better insights has a better solution. Alex

Built 64 bit vm for 64 bit compaq ES40 alpha server running gentoo linux.

I was able to use vmmaker to generate a 64 bit vm for the Alpha. However it can't run 32 bit images, so I'm kind of stuck. Where could I get an image (3.10-6 hopefully). Richard Snow -- http://mypals.info

Graphical Application Where to Begin?

Hello, It has been awhile since I have written, but I am back trying to continue work on an application that has been on hiatus for awhile. My current goal is to write a graphical interface to display geo-referenced data in a scrollable/zoomable window. I have written code to read data from a file and use it to create an instance of GraphicSymbol. I can display the object on a form and display the form. Now I want to start building a simple map browser application, but I don't know where to start. From what I understand, there is a lot of Morphic that will/should be deprecated. What can I do to ensure that my design conforms to the appropriate Morphic roadmap? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The vision is to create a virtual landscape from a combination of elevation data ie a matrix of elevation points and planar features ie various lines that identify roads, rivers, boundaries etc. Thanks, John-Reed Maffeo -- Powered By Outblaze

Cuis font sizes

Hi Juan - This is mostly to Juan but others might be able to help as well. I noticed that the Cuis fonts disagree in their pixel sizes significantly with that we get from the plain DejaVu true type fonts in Squeak. A bit of math reveals that at the (assumed) screen resolution of 96dpi a 12pt font should result in 16px high font (12*96/72 see Eqn. 3 in [1]). The corresponding Bitmap DejaVu 12pt font, however, is 19px high which would mean a screen resolution of 114dpi (19*72/12). Is this choice intentional? Unfortunately, none of the pixel sizes for Bitmap DejaVu correspond exactly to a point size when assuming 96dpi. The reason this is causing me grief is that I am trying to set up a mechanism for allowing people to drop the DejaVu fonts into their images and have any glyphs not part of the cuis fonts rendered in DejaVu truetype instead. I can probably get the truetype rendering to spit out a precise pixel size to match it but I think it'd be good if we had clarity on how these pixel sizes came into being. Any insights appreciated! Title bar bug on trunk

Hello all, I have attached a screenshot on Squeak 3.11.3 (beta) VM with 3.10.2 trunk image and latest updates as of today. The font in the title bar is too big causing the window to overflow and having the resize border controls inside the title bar (see red arrows pointing the problem). While it should probably be fixed, I would also like to suggest font size in the title bar being one pt size less than what's actually available. A supplementary note in the "About this image" window in regard to MIT license would be a good idea. Better to repeat this as often as necessary, as long as we have not agreed on something specific to make sure contributions are under this license. Regards, Ian. -- http://mecenia.blogspot.com/

FreeTypePlus integration status

Hi - I'm sure most of you have seen what I've been up to on the weekend. I did a round of integration work on Freetype in order to make its installation and uninstallation just as simple as Shout. Plus, there have already been some changes to font rendering in the trunk that interact with Freetype's overrides in problematic ways and I really want to give this stuff even more of a make-over which would make the problem only worse. The current status is that outside of the FreeTypePlus core classes you need two additional extension methods, BitBlit(GrafPort)>>installFreeTypeFont:... and BitBlt>>copyBitsColor:alpha:gammaTable:ungammaTable:. I've left these with Freetype since they are "classic" extension methods (that is they add functionality that is required by Freetype but doesn't affect anything else). Other than that there are no further extensions or overrides of the core packages necessary. All of the core font stuff has been merged and the only other thing needed is to tell Squeak where to find the new fonts. I've cheated a little on that one by providing a hook that allows replacing the font chooser with one that knows how to deal with Freetype fonts, i.e., after installing Freetype you can simply execute "FontChooserTool default: FontChooser" and it will take the FontChooser from Freetype and give you access to the Freetype fonts. Andy - I'm curious if you would consider moving these extensions and overrides out of the Freetype and into some FreetypePatches packages (just like you have with the PinesoftEnhancementsForFreetype). This would allow us to load a straight version of Freetype into trunk images without the fear of conflicts. Cheers, - Andreas
