[Cuis] Experiences So Far

Hi All, I have to say I am quite enjoying myself with Cuis2.0, Juan's small image is great fun, and is easy to work with. Finally we have a kernel image to play with, and the tools with which to do some playing and sharing. InstallStreams, is working very well indeed. It builds on Cuis2.0 as a fixed point, and IS builds the stable/unstable derived images very quickly. I can think of lots of goals we could to work towards for Cuis2.1. There are the basic housekeeping tasks, like tidying up and unloading more stuff. But that is not really what the Cuis platform is all about. Cuis is about revolution, rather than evolution, Morphic 3 will be on Cuis first after all! We want it to be the place where you would come to craft something new, and find it easiest to integrate and deploy there, simply because Cuis is the simplest base platform. If you can make it for Cuis, and craft the API's carefully avoiding dependencies, then it should load anywhere. Current Tasks 1. Carry on with miscellaneous tidying up - tidy Utilities, pull OldSocket [done] 2. Make more packages loadable using the all too simple InstallStreams packages mechanism. (e.g. LinearAlgebra (done), Sound-Synthesis, Sound-Scores, Shout, SignalProcessing, SUnit3.1 [done] Goal Ideas Build a small standalone Magma Server Load & Run Seaside and Pier etc Parity We need to integrate a few things like pragmas and traits to get some parity with other forks. Curl plugin problems

Anything that goes beyond a basic up or download leads to a primitive failure: Curl new url: 'http://somedomain.com/foo'; request: 'DELETE'; "<-- primitive error here" perform In the debugger #easyStatusString returns 'no error'. I will not be running for the SOB and we need a new Box-Admins team leader

After giving the matter some thought I have decided that I will not be running for the Squeak Oversight Board again this year. I need to spend more time developing my business. Anyone who is at all interested in running for the Oversight Board this year should start soon as the election is only about a month away. Also, I've decided that it's time to pass the Box-Admins team leader reins on to someone else. I took over from Cees de Groot sometime in 2005 and overall I've enjoyed the job. But as mentioned above I need to reclaim some time and this task could use some new blood. While I generally have had sufficient technical skills, my social skills are not so great and I have done poorly at delegating. While there are a few people like Cees, Göran Krampe, and Marcus Denker around when I really need help (witness events last October), by and large I've tended to do the job on my own. This is not a great idea and I suggest anyone considering the job plan to try harder to actually have an active team than I have. I would be happy to talk to anyone interested and explain the situation in more detail. I don't intend to just disappear. First of all I'm willing to continue as the Box-Admins team leader until as late as June 1st, 2010. I imagine it may take some time to find someone with sufficient interest, time, and ability. And I will likely continue as a team member past that date and intend to be reachable by email or other contact info on my Swiki page on into the future. Ken Causey

Hi all, I've made a bugfix release of Filesystem. From the release notes: - Added convenience methods for Windows drives (suggested by Eliot Miranda) - Fixed bug in resolving the user''s home directory (Andreas Raab) - Fixed bug in printing the root directory on Windows - Disks on Windows are now listed in alphabetical order - Renamed utility methods for converting strings. (suggested by Julian Fitzell) - Implemented FSReference class>>roots to allow discovery of fileystems. - Implemented a resolver for Unix. (Patrick Shouse) - Fixed a bug that would prevent streams from being flushed when closed. - Fixed a bug in writing ZipFilesystem contents to the underlying zip file. - Fixed a bug in copying directory trees specified with a relative path. - Fixed a bug in growing the file allocation when writing to a file in a memory filesystem. The SAR file is available for download here: http://www.wiresong.ca/downloads/Filesystem-1.0.1.sar Please note that it's OK to install this version over the previous version.
