Ok, the final-final image is now ready. All-in-One also updated. Thanks for everyone's testing. Anything else we find can be applied to squeak42 repository and then merged into trunk. I see no way this would cause any continuity problems upgrading a 4.2 to a trunk. - Chris

The StackToRegisterMappingCogit produces machine code that is about 20% more compact than the SimpleStackBasedCogit (hence meaning less frequent code zone reclamations and better cache performance) and considerably faster for microbenchmarks, for example the empty 1 to: 100000000 do: [:i|] (equivalent to i := 1. [i <= 100000000] whileTrue: [i := i + 1]) is 4 times faster than the SimpleStackBasedCogit. Alternative icons for Squeak menus

Hi All, I've put together an alternative icon set for Squeak menus, based on the Tango public domain icons from http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Desktop_Project . They're a combination of untouched Tango icons, some tweaked ones, and some that I've created specifically for Squeak uses, so the polish may vary. They're in the inbox as Morphic-MAD.505.mcz - have a look and let me know if there's any interest in bringing them into the trunk. Cheers and Happy New Year, Michael

JNIPort 2.0 for VisualWorks, Pharo and Squeak is now available! JNIPort is a Smalltalk library which allows Java code to be invoked from Smalltalk. It acts as a bridge between the world of Smalltalk objects and a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) where Java code is executing. For more information see http://jniport.wikispaces.com JNIPort 2.0 for VisualWorks can be loaded from the Cincom Public Store Repository and from the JNIPort wiki at http://jniport.wikispaces.com/Downloads JNIPort 2.0 for Pharo and Squeak is available from SqueakSource at http://www.squeaksource.com/JNIPort.html and from the JNIPort wiki. The changes from JNIPort 1.9 are: - JNIPort can now be used in Pharo and Squeak. - Packages have been renamed such that the can be shared between Store and Monticello. - Platform specific code has been moved to separate packages to make the core packages portable between VisualWorks, Pharo, and Squeak. - The much-critized _null postfix used for selectors of wrapper methods which don't have arguments is gone. - A few bugs have been fixed. Installation instructions for VisualWorks are on the JNIPort wiki, instructions for Pharo and Squeak are on the wiki of the JNIPort project page of SqueakSource. I strongly encourage you to read the instructions before installing and using JNIPort. JNIPort 2.0 has been tested with: - VisualWorks from 7.5 to 7.8 (trent dec10.3) on Mac OS X 10.6.6 and Windows XP SP 3 - VisualWorks from 7.7 to 7.8 (trent dec10.3) on Ubuntu 10.04 (64bit) with both the 32-bit and the 64-bit VisualWorks VMs - Squeak 4.2 on Mac OS X 10.6.6 and Windows XP SP 3 - Pharo 1.1.1 and 1.2 on Mac OS X 10.6.6 and Windows XP SP 3 Known issues: - In Pharo 1.1.1, you may encounter an error when JNIPort tries to register a new Java object in an internal weak dictionary. This is a bug in Pharo's implementation of this collection class. I can't do anything about it. If you can't live with it, please upgrade to Pharo 1.2. - JNIPort for Pharo and Squeak currently cannot be used with the Cog VM. - Callbacks from foreign operating system threads cannot be used in Pharo and Squeak. The Alien foreign function interface does not yet support this feature. When you run the unit tests, three tests will fail because of this restriction. Hi Chris, Thats just the date. I wrote the original NSIS installer script to provide a setup for Pharo and later for Squeak too. Thanks to Ian this work is not lost and now finds a new home. When I wrote the initial version all packaged Pharo images had the "build date" in its name since from time to time there was (beside the usual update mechanism) a read to run image uploaded on the INRIA server and this date was the only possibility to see which package was newer. Since I provided the Installer files in parallel I used the same convention for the Pharo installer. Dont know if that makes sense for Squeak since AFAIK full releases like 4.2 only happen from time to time. However: you should note the following, the executable for the Windows VM has a VERSION ressource section. Andreas has integrated this in the VM sources after I suggested it. So you can right click on the *.exe and look at its version - like in any other windows executable. This version number is also important for the setup, if the MSI (Microsoft installer) installer program finds a higher version of the exe it might not install the one from the setup package (since the file on disk is already newer). Also the NSIS file includes a version (see the script) and this should always increment. This version is shown in the windows control panel (the one where you can remove installed programs).
