We, as a community, don't have a visual motif. That's really obvious if you look at it. I'll shut up about colors (I guess, does everyone hate colors??) I might have to go soon; let's have a visual motif. Tim's legendary face is fantastic, but I have a feeling that Squeak's visual identity is completely lost in space and time. We'll find our way out of that problem, of course. C

http://box3.squeak.org:8624/ I made a few changes. I added Darius's Innovation section and some color to the sections that were gray. I think Darius's Innovation section fills out the site nicely. There are no links, because the content area is a child of the parent frame holding the navbar. This is composition, not inheritance, so I can't reach the "current" instvar easily. Altitude can be RESTful, so I could make the whole site RESTful. And if it was Seaside, I'd punt and call a continuation. The site may need to be re-structured, but for now I'm just going to present the Innovation section without links. Chris

Problems with CogVM

I'm usually running squeak using stackVM (which I compiled to suit my needs). But I just crashed against an old problem. Yesterday I gave Athens (pharo) a try. Pharo runs under CogVM and as I use Fedora x86_64 and this system is a ... about gcc -m32, I either use the cogvm that comes along the distribution or I select one pre-built from Elliot. Unecessary to say that I had all sorts of problems with NativeBoost not being able to call the foreign libraries... Then I decided to come back and try squeak with cogvm and I tried to suit it to run OpenGL but it fails. I think it's impossible that I'm the only poor mortal to have ever faced the problem of suiting FFI to properly run Cog in a x86_64 architecture. Have someone dealt with this problem??? PS: I did all the tricks with LD_LIBRARY_PATH, ld.conf.so.d, etc. CdAB

TimeZoneDatabase is the Olsen tz database (*) integrated with Squeak Chronology to provide full time zone support and correct calculation of times and durations in the image. The package is now updated to account for recent changes to Date creation in Squeak trunk (new instances created relative to UTC rather than local time). All KernelTests-Chronology and Time-TimeZones-test unit tests pass. The latest version can be loaded through the SqueakMap package loader, or from the repository at www.squeaksource.com/TimeZoneDatabase. Dave (*) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tz_database

Well, a couple of things. The last time source.squeak.org was down was May. At the time Ken accessed the Hetzner robot to reboot the server. I have an email saying he got access from Marcus. I ssh'd into box2 and the squeakso process (seen with top -d 3) is now <defunct>. I think this means it is now a zombie having no parent process and that the problem can only be solved with a reboot. Somebody needs to go to the Hetzner robot and flip the "reboot" switch. I would also point out that is is Thanksgiving in the USA, but not in France. I think Ken will be out of the picture for days. If somebody could contact Marcus (he's cc'd above) to flip the switch, perhaps that would be a solution. Chris
