I’ve routed the Download button on the homepage to the Downloads page. I’ve added content to the Downloads page. Two things may be different than expected. The first is that I’ve put the cogvm_2776-1_i386.deb in the FTP archive’s 4.5 directory so it can be downloaded from the Downloads page. The second thing is the version number of the Cog vms which is 2776. There seems to be a tacit concept of a “community approved vm” floating in the community. One the one hand it appears that Dr. Miranda feels his latest release is the CAvm. Chris Muller and Levente have other notions. When I offered to upgrade the vm debs in the servers several months ago, Chris and Levente wanted to see “tests” first. No mention of what might constitute these “tests” was forthcoming. I’m stepping out of this debate. I’m just telling you why the Cog vms in the advanced section of the Downloads page are pegged at 2776. It was the simplest thing to do. I already had a deb for it. Woot! I can't answer your question, but I do have a strong interest in being able to unload the Morphic environment. In something like a web server, Morphic just wastes a lot of CPU cycles, and MVC is much less expensive (as we've seen on lower end machines like the Raspberry Pi,) so it would be fantastic to elevate it to its former glory as a complete solution to the user interface of applications which do not require the flexibility of the Morphic environment, like the system browser. Unfortunately, while I have plenty of experience with the MVC "pattern," I have only really just sat in awe of how fast Squeak runs inside an MVC project. Having someone around who's returning after 14 years of wandering might be just what I need to make myself useful in this regard. I know that David Lewis is also interested in seeing the MVC system a viable option for development again (IIRC he fixed some serious problems with the debugger,) and I imagine that at least some of the Seaside folks would love to drop the overhead of Morphic from their servers. I'm moving this conversation to squeak-dev, as it's more about remodelling and redecorating a part of the core of Squeak and less about using it in general. If you aren't subscribed there, you should be, or you'll end up in the moderator's queue, which can take a (relatively) longish time to turn around. If the community doesn't take the bait, feel free to contact me offline. a==b "true" but a=b "false"

When could it happen? A: With Float nan. Float nan == Float nan "true" Float nan = Float nan "false" It violates what I have long considered an invariant that if a==b, then a=b. Real world context: When two DB clients change the same object in the exact same way, it's not a conflict. If they change it differently, it is. They've both made the same reference to Float nan, but just asking if they made equivalent changes still reports false. So I have to put in a complicated special check for NaN first..?? Okay, I actually wrote: (a==b or: [a=b]) but who would ever write that or not "simplify it" in teh future if they saw it? Comments? Why shouldn't Float nan = Float nan?

Hi Eliot, it looks like any attempt to position a file beyond some threshold is causing the primitive failure in Cog VM's released after 2776 that I'm seeing. | file | file:=StandardFileStream newFileNamed: 'mybigfile'. file binary. [1234 timesRepeat: [ file nextPutAll: (ByteArray new: 1 million) ]. file position: file size - 100 ] ensure: [file close]. Magma uses a random file position for every single object retrieved; so the performance of primitiveFileSetPosition is crucial to the performance of Magma. Thanks.

A quick test and it seems to be working properly this time. Thank you! The purpose of *reviewing* is, you might need to make a *change*! (otherwise, why bother reviewing?) So if I need to make a change, I need that change to be *saved*! It hardly seems like something that logical should need to be called "CM's workflow" but if that's what it takes for it to behave this way, fine by me. ;-) BTW, what did you mean by: "Allow for proper comparison of MCPatchOperation?" Is that just about this same feature -- the fact that the user is able to select certain PatchOperations to be ignored or did you mean some other, unrelated fix? Thanks again!
