While reading some other stuff than the squeak mailing list I found this link www.mac.st where a DivX ;-) movie codec can be found. They claim it will be the mp3 of movies (!). That remains to see but maybe a primitive for Squeak will give moving image a better implementation than the current ? I really don't know how to implement this but since I've done quite a few video films etc. I would love be able to continue on working with moving images in Squeak.

Is it - open source (what license?), and - platform independent?

I asked them:
is this codec open source ? If so what license ? Is this just the codec and no other part of what would be a media layer, or can it be used as a stand alone lib for playback ?
They answered:
No, the codec is not yet open source. A stand alone lib is in the make :)
Greetings, Jan --
More info:
Works for Mac and Windows. It's planned for Be and Linux. It's a MPEG 4 codec. Looks interesting.
