Next year is a presidential election year in the United States. I thought that Squeak should have its own campaign sticker. Is there a way to get this into the SqueakShop on cafe press?
Funny. What would be funnier is to name the squeak mouse (does (s)he have a name?) and campaign for him/her.

If I recall correctly, mascot/logo "Squeaky" is one of Master Squeaker Tim Rowledge's lesser contributions.

Given the state of 'merkin politics I can't help thinking that
Squeaky clean in '08
might be even better...
The logo was certainly a minor amount of work but my goodness it's spread around the world. Every now and then I get nice presents from people when they make a club/team T-shirt, sweatshirt or cap or whatever using it . I have number of utterly gorgeous books from Japan that I have been sent by the publishers as a thank you gift. I'm still awaiting the appearance of a Squeaky logo Koenigsegg CCX (http://www.koenigsegg.com/index.asp ) on my driveway.

Been playing around on our OLPC laptops-- specifically with Etoys. Can't figure out how to open a browser without resorting to tricks.
One of my tricks is to play around with a project in an attempt to generate a DNU-- if you *try* to generate a DNU you can usually do it pretty rapidly.
Then, once a DNU is generated, I can click "Debug", and that gives me something that I can then type something like "Browser openBrowser" and then doit.
Voila! A normal Smalltalk browser appears.
But that is sure a sucky way to do it.
Anybody know of a "proper" way to open a class browser inside of Etoys on an OLPC laptop? Must be something obvious that I'm missing.

Heh, heh. OLPC makes a big deal of "View Source" feature, which of course Etoys developers think a good idea. Alt-, (comma, in many keyboard layout it is next to period and look like period on steroid) is a meta keystroke to dive into deeper level; in current implementation, you get a simplified World menu.
Also take a look at:

Well, Alt-. is one, too.

... and the "regular" Fn-Space key combo for "view source" might work too, depending on your version of the OS, Etoys, and Squeak. The VM maps it to Alt-, internally.

And, of course, the Squeak browsers etc, are not a proper part of Etoys at all. Both the language and object model are different ...

Yes, but I also have an ulterior motive here.
Our website (bountifulbaby.com ) is Squeak/Seaside driven, and I want to help ensure that we have local resources to support the website. If I seed the local school with OLPC machines, *somebody* is going to eventually dig deeper into eToys and discover the Smalltalk underpinnings. And this could eventually potentially solve my support problem.
And even if it doesn't, have I really lost anything? :-)

To get a code browser, I just type in the word "Text" with a capital "T" in a text morph, highlight it, and hit Alt-B. The default TextMorph already has the word "Text" typed in it.

I also see in the olpc news update
19. Scratch: Brian Silverman (by phone), John Maloney, and Mitchel Resnick came by the OLPC office this week to demonstrate Scratch running on an XO (See [5]). While it hasn't been wholy "Sugarized" yet, it is already quite usable. John will be posting a bundle on the wiki for those who'd like to explore it (and provide feedback) at this stage.

Indeed, Tim, I called it a "lesser contribution" only relative to your other, even more significant, contributions to the Squeak Community. The "Buy Tim a CCX Foundation" was moving along fine until Koenigsegg said the logo was giving them aerodynamics problems, but the engineers are working on it.
Thanks sincerely for the work you've done.

Now that is a neat little advert. I *love* the stopping on a dime...
