I've got squeak 2.6 running on redhat linux 6.0. I would like to connect to the linux machine from another Unix box via ssh, run squeak on the linux box and use X Windows to display it locally. This works fine, but I'm finding the graphics far too slow. Does anyone know any tips for speeding up X in combination with squeak and ssh?
Have you looked at VNC? It works very nice together with Squeak, at least for me. I have a RedHat machine running Squeak and Xvnc and the
only tricky part was
something with visual classes - can not remember right now - but I posted
info about it a while
ago.

I'd be interested in comparisons between X and VNC on the same box/network. There was some talk on the Squeak Swiki about building VNC client & server support directly into Squeak (to take advange of what Squeak knows about it's own display bits, among other things). So any performance comparisons using X-based VNC would be welcome.
