I've posted a macintosh VM 3.8.9b7
See http://www.smalltalkconsulting.com/squeak.html
It's fixes to issues raised by the 3.8.9b5 distribution. If there are no complaints raised over the next day or two (please check) then I'll ask if this can go into the current mac distribution dmg on the main download site.
3.8.9b7 sqMacMain.c #ifdef change to enable compile under os-9 sqMacUIAppleEvents.c Handle case where the file name ends with *.image but we have no hfs meta data. sqMacUIEvents.c #ifdef change to enable compile under os-9. sqMacWindow.c Recheck window handle on window open, or window title set.
3.8.9b2,b3,b4,b6 had limited distribution for testing
This VM also contains the OS-9 executable in the bundle.

If someone can put this VM in the http://ftp.squeak.org/3.8/mac/ Squeak3.8-current-MacOS-full.dmg.gz and update the links on http://www.squeak.org/Download/ to point to it versus 3.8.6b6 that would be great.

Updating the FTP site is the task of the FileArea team (the list of teams can be found at http://www.squeak.org/Community/Teams/) which currently consists of Bruce O'Neel. Maybe it's time this became a larger team with a mailing list?

Yes, but the web site needs to be altered too since it points to a particular VM. I also posted to the list just in case someone noticed some odd behaviour with the 3.8.9b7 VM and had forgotten to email me with the issue.

OK, well there is a team for that too. The Website Team. And contact information for them can be found on that page as well. So this issue should probably be brought to the attention of both. Or maybe the FileArea Team would be responsible for notifying the Website Team when a link on the site needs updating, or maybe the FileArea Team would be also a part of the Website Team and be responsible for file links on the website directly. ;) Clearly we are still working out the procedures on this sort of thing.

Hi guys!
IMHO the STTCPW is to merge these two Teams since updating the file area often should also lead to updates to the website and that the file area Team/task is so small in practice (most of the time).
This would also mean that more people can assist with the file area when Bruce is unavailable. I still think it is wise to have a single person as "responsible" for the file area *layout* though (I am a great believer in personal responsibility) - so if the above sounds fine then I think Bruce is still our man for that - operating within the WebTeam. If as I said this sounds fine to you Bruce! :)
Deal? Jason and Bruce needs to agree, and Ken needs to get a notice that we go for this in order to update the Team table etc.
regards, Göran
PS. Btw, can someone please verify that the http://ftp.squeak.org/MIRRORING.txt instruction works not only for me? We should also have a "mirrors" section on the website, given that we have at least one of course. :)

Hi,
This sounds excellent! I'm more than happy to have the file team go away and have that be part of the web team. Also having more people be able to update the ftp area is good since I might not notice when something important has been released.
cheers

Excellent! Then I consider it official and will update the Teams web page. I will take a look at what needs to be done on box2 also to facilitate easier access for the web team.
Jason: What is your current policy on offering direct ssh/scp to box2 using the website account? How would this match up with those allowed to upload to ftp.squeak.org?
Bruce: For now I'm going to leave things as they are regarding the sqfiles account on box2.
By the way I notice that Marcus also has access to the sqfiles account. We need to try to keep track of these things and so I would ask that Marcus join the Website team (assuming he is not already a member) and that his ability to update the FTP site be made known to the group.
I will let everyone know as I make any changes to the access to the FTP area. I won't be changing anything for now until I better understand the intended mechanics from the team's perspective.

I don't really have a policy so to speak -- I guess I should come up with one. I will ask the team who would like to take this on and then let you know.

This will depend on who is willing to take responsibility for being the back-up. I would assume that Bruce would maintain responsibility for it, but I think that he should have someone else on the team to whom he could delegate if he couldn't not perform the task for some reason.
Karl has signed up to keep the URLs up-to-date.

Hi,
What would be really best would be for someone to monitor each of the major platforms and then point out when some upload needs to be done.
I get a lot of email and tend to miss that one line in someones email that says that this platform or that one should be updated :-(
cheers
