I use Squeak on NT and the Command Key sequence "Cmd-6" (and alike) seems not to work. Is there a way to make it work ?
Thanks.

You mean Alt-6, right? Note that too much of the Squeak documentation assumes a Mac viewpoint...
It works for me (Squeak 3.1alpha on Win2K).

OK, it works with an US-American keyboard layout.
How to make it work with an other keyboard layout? French(Belgian) would be fine.

Actually my remark was a little bit misleading. Alt-6 should work on any PC keyboard layout. What does not work is the more exotic stuff that is not a single key on non-american keyboards. Like, Alt-- (minus) works, but Alt-= does not because "-" has a key on its own while "=" is shift-0 on a German keyboard. Same goes for the nice bracket insertion short cuts.

Hi Bert, I think you missed the point. Bert Freudenberg wrote:

That is exactly the problem: _All_the_digits_areaccessed_with_shifted keys_! (That is on French/Belgian... keyboards). They need all the extra keys for the accented charcters. I think someone should really tackle this problem and set the Command/Alt/Control/Meta keys stuff on a more stable base.

Oh my ... You're right. Just looked at it with xkeycaps. So Alt-6 actually is Alt-Shift-minus ... weird. Yes, we should do something about that. Suggestions?

Yes, use the Alt key. In Squeak, the Alt key on a PC is equivalent to the Command Key on a Mac. (Which is different from the Ctrl key.) You may have noticed that you don't have a Command Key on your keyboard. ;) This stuff is covered in the "Modifier Keys" section of the Squeak FAQ, see http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/squeak/471 .
Anyway, this reminds me that the Cmd-6 menu seems unnecessarily obscure. This is the menu that lets you set text color and add hyperlinks. Shouldn't this functionality be visible from the regular text menu? Probably adding an item on the shift-menu would be best... maybe near the bottom, before the "special menu..." we could add a "color/link menu... (6)" item. [ENH] submissions welcome. :)

Having an action _not_ on the menus is truly appalling UI practice. Person responsible should dunk their head in garlic-chili sauce for 30 seconds.
