Good morning all,
I've just opened http://bugs.impara.de/view.php?id=2141 . Cc'ing it here for discussion:
--------------------------------------------------------------- Here are the current Mantis severities:
feature trivial text tweak minor major crash block
I find these hard to use because:
- there is no "normal" severity. Some issues are neither minor nor major. - there are too many - some are more like categories - tweak sounds like something used for Tweak issues - the meaning of some is obscure (text)
I'd like us to choose a simpler set of severities, perhaps evolving them over time. Ideally old issues will have their severities adapted accordingly. Here's a proposal to get the ball rolling:
serious - crashes, hangs, release blockers, data loss, security breaches, breakages in important stuff normal - every other kind of breakage or problem, except for.. wishlist - things which are more like enhancement requests

I think - I hope, in fact - that that was done on purpose. It is good to have no default, because it forces people to make a decision about what kind of bug they're logging. If you have "major, normal, minor", you'll find that most bugs will be logged as "normal" because people are hesitant to flag something as major and probably expect minor stuff never to be solved anyway ;). With "major, minor", they have to make up their mind...
I do agree that there's little logic in the current categories, that could be done better.
