Thanks for posting :)
I tried to check with an AdWords campaign which I run for www.squeak.org many months ago, to find and report here the keywords which had most impressions, but all that Google currently has for my campaigns is
"We apologize for the inconvenience, but we are unable to process your request at this time. Our engineers have been notified of this problem and will work to resolve it. Please note that using your browser's back button in AdWords can increase the likelihood of errors. If you think this was the cause of your error, please try again without using the back button."
Will try again once Google is back in business ;)
From what I recall, the active ones where
squeak smalltalk smalltalk tutorial squeak tutorial
All the "rest" keywords/combinations (like: platform, development, IDE, multimedia, VM, etc) where occupied by the deep pockets C#, J#, P# etc folks.
Thanks again.

I now re-checked with AdWords and asked for analysis of current www.squeak.org, here's Google's mechanically suggested priority list with # of suggested keyword combinations per category in ()'s
- web application developer (6) - web application (20) - programming language (22) - squeak squad (5) - smalltalk (87) - application (18) - programming (14) - squeak (20) - misc: small talk, croquet, seaside (5)
Q: is it possible you drop the "generator" meta tag and instead put in the "keywords" and "description" meta tags listing all the projects and topics that the Squeak community is concerned with?

Yes, you missed all topics and all projects ;) The above is no good, by no means, you want to raise out of the existing web keywords noise around you.
Just put in all the Squeak project names and all the Squeak topic names, as they are now spreaded accross the site.
And get rid of the noise, application development returns 107,000,000 results and so does web applications. Put in things which makes Squeak different from that noise (the "application" terms are infered by the crawlers and engines anyways).
This need to be done to other pages as well, because keywords are not site wide but page by page.
I vaguely remember such things can be done by programming a computer system? at a central routine ;) But having main buzzwords on the main page is a very good start.
Thank you for taking care Janko, good job & good tool.

Guys, please be concrete, come out with a complete line of that keywords, nicely separated with commas ...
About global vs. per page keywords, I can add setting for global keywords but when you write per page kewords as well, later prevail. Good idea?

In principle yes but that requires effort for keeping per page lists up to date. Let's start with what is easier to realize and perhaps with time find evidence for other requirements.

Here we go, and thanks to Karl and Brad for their suggestions.
'Smalltalk, Slang, Squeak, VM, Plugins, FFI, Image, Sources, Changes, Classes, Objects, Messages, Methods, Closures, Traits, Exupery, Browsers, Compilers, Debuggers, IDE, Monticello, SUnit, Refactoring, BitBlt, OpenGL, Sound, Canvas, Morphs, Tweak, FreeType, Sockets, ChangeSets, Repositories, SqueakMap, SqueakSource, Etoys, SqueakLand, Croquet, Scratch, XO, OLPC, Seaside, Aida, Magma, OODB, Glorp, ORM, Tutorials, Books, Examples, Wiki, Documentation, Projects, Bugs, Animation, Fun, Education, Research, Industry, Robots, Foundation, Community, People, Donations, Mailing Lists, IRC, RSS, Conferences, Jobs, Merchandise, Buttons, T-Shirts, Download, Distributions, Platforms, Installation, Linux, Mac, Windows, Algol, Simula, Lisp, Prolog, Java, Python, Ruby'
Intentionally left out: Application, Development, Web (too noisy IMO). Will check with AdWords how/what is improved by these keywords.
OT: wish you'd trade the "generator" crap for a valuable "powered by" link to your site, since in the world wide web a backlink is worth more than 1000 times an essentially pointless proprietary $FrontPage$ "extension".
Thanks again Janko.

Hi Klaus,
I just added your keywords as global ones to the website. I upgraded Aida with a new setting for the global keywords, which appear in header of every web page on the site. But you can still define your own keywords page by page, which are then added to global ones.
Thanks to you and others helping providing those keywords!

O.K. looks nice from here. Now we only have to wait for the crawlers (about 2-6 weeks).

Hi list,
meanwhile things have changed quite a bit in the keywords business, www.squeak.org is now no longer a pure web/dev app site ... instead, we seem to have moved into the brake- and squads-constructor/sales business. Here is what Google suggest to bid for pay-per-click:
kirby squeak squad (8), brake pad (49), brake rotor (16), disc brake (9), brake repair (11), brake caliper (9), brake (43), smalltalk (33), squeak (13), Miscellaneous keywords (9)
The #'s in () are their # of suggested words/combinations, did not list them here.
The Smalltalk-related suggestion list seems to have grown (we ar not soo bad ;) also the Squeak-related suggestions are not bad. And alien languages are no longer suggested (did we put a double negator into the keywords by mentioning alien languages ;) ?
I've search the squeak.org site for brake and squad and there are indeed bug+wiki+news pages with these words; nothing much we can do about.
Happy braking and squading everybody :)

wouldn't "Squeak" be an important keyword?
also, how about: oop, object oriented programming, virtual machine, vm, alan kay, dan ingalls, esug
and, if this is going to be hidden meta tags on the front page, do we want to take a lesson from Google and place keywords like: java, self
Might get some access from java searchers
