In Etoys Game Control project I had a task where I asked the kids to send the car to the goal using the "space" key. I provided them a prebuilt scripting tile to test for Car's last keystroke = 
But you can't "see" the space (yes, I know you can detect a larger empty area (assuming you can remember the size of an empty area).

It may be better to use <space> instead.
