Most Smalltalk implementations have literal byte arrays with the syntax #[  
1 2 3 ].

Using literal byte arrays would solve all problems, if all major platforms  
support them? Pharo has them too, since
a couple of hours. It was the matter of changing a single method in the  
Smalltalk scanner.
