I don't think people will feel like they are "scared little birds", but 
my concern would be that they perceive arrogance.  For example, if they 
are coming from a Java background then using smalltalk would indeed be 
enlightening, but they wont think this at first.  They will think that 
because Java is currently the most popular and that's what they know, 
then they are by definition the most enlightened.  To these folks such a 
phrase might be seen as an insult and everything they read after that 
will be with eyes toward seeing something to criticize.
