Saves system preferences, window colors, font settings and some other
related system settings to an external file as a list of Doits. The external
file may then be 'filed in' to configure another image.

This is by no means all inclusive of all system settings [e.g. flap
configuration is glaringly absent]. In addition, some of the way settings
operate change over time and may need adjustment in this code.
