I started playing around with playing MP3 files today myself.  While I 
don't get a walkback, I do find that MP3s with ID3 tags (V2, I think - I 
still have to investigate) do not play using

(StreamingMP3Sound openFile: 'foo.mp3') play

while the ones w/o ID3 tags play fine.  I'm on a 3.1 VM and a 
3.1beta-4478 image.  Not sure if that's related, but you may want to try 
one w/o any ID3 tags for testing.
