I would hope not. But my ability to contribute meaningfully at all would  
have a lot to do with what was broken. And of course, I'm on a tight  
schedule: I have to teach my kids before they grow up.<s>

I don't want to comment too much on the rest of what you say as I don't  
really feel qualified. It seems to me that those things broken by internal  
changes ought to be restricted to tools which actually need access to  
those internals.

Formal specification-wise: Would it help? Or would it just ossify things  
further?
