It would be interesting to see how much of your application gets broken 
by the network rewrite. That would give a real life estimate on how much 
pain refactorings may cause.

On the other hand we should learn from the Mac OS experience where Apple 
decided to avoid pain for too long by staying backwards compatible to 
broken APIs.
It's like saving money by not changing the oil in your car ;-)
