I passed this along last month but, again, I can't make it (ESUG this time). I think this would be a great event to have a presence at; so if anyone is interested, please represent us. :)

Hi All,

At the launch event a lot of you asked for introductory talks at the
start of our meetups. So, this month, we give you introductory talks!

7.00pm
Free Google Tools to help hacks become hackers
Chewy Trewhella, Google
Chewy, a Developer Advocate at Google, will run through some tips and
tricks using free Google applications that may help hacks starting out
on the road to hacking. Chewy, who is particularly knowledgeable about
Google's APIs and webmaster programmes, will also be able to answer
questions and offer advice to those who are more technically minded.

7.30pm
A Do's and Don't's guide to hacks and hacking
Jonathan Richards and Julian Burgess, The Times
Over the past 18 months Jonathan Richards (a hack turned hacker) and
Julian Burgess (a hacker turned hack) have built the data unit at The
Times, doing everything from assisting the news desk sort through data
for stories, to writing a weekly data column for the magazine,
producing smaller, data-driven graphics for the web, and building
larger applications like the Good University Guide and the paper's
online election site. In their talk - 'A Do's and Don't's guide to
hacks and hacking', they give some practical advice to those looking
to explore the crossover between journalism and technology.

We've got lots more free events in the pipeline for future meetups,
but they will of course depend on the numbers we get to the sessions.
So, please do come a long and support us if you can!

See you soon!
