I would like to second this. It would really be nice to be able to create AliceWorlds from carthographic data. [ENH][FIX][Goodie] Various bug fixes, Exmh mail import, and a MailNotifier

Bugs fixed - * MailDB printOn: more robust * MailMessage timeFrom: can now handle timezone '+-200' (some mailers think I live there). * MIME fields made case insensitive (Case amnesiac, actually. Could this be a problem?). Second file is a crude but effective MailNotifier. Anyone feel like making it pretty and more convinient (UI experts, anyone)? Third file is a class I created to import my mail from Exmh, in case anyone else uses it or wants another example to help create his own. BTW, hacking up the import code is simpler than it seems.

Should I update to Squeak 2.8 alpha???

I'm currently having a lot of trouble with 2.7 failing (e.g. I try to accept a new method only to have the debug window pop up; when I try to dismiss it, it returns - again & again & again ...; semaphore logic that works fine on VW locks up on 2.7, etc. etc. etc.). I don't know if updating to 2.8alpha would help but it can't hurt. If so, how do I do this using EToySystem? ---John PS. Squeak should allow subclassing of ANY class (like VW & VA) such as Semaphore.

[BUG] Update-from-server time slows down after update 1800

I happened to try using "update from server" to update a Squeak 2.7 image to 2.8alpha. For updates 1765 to 1799, there is about a 2 second delay between the time one progress bar dissappears and the next one appears. But after update 1800, the delay jumps up to about 20 seconds between every update. This is on Windows NT. But I tried updating from the exact same image on SGI/Irix, but it's fine, the delay stays at about 2 seconds between updates. Then I figured I might as well try my Mac at home (with a 56K modem), and it seems to have the same problem that Windows has. Weird. I did a alt-. during the 20 seconds, and it's sitting in Semaphore>>waitTimeoutMSecs:, where msecs is 20000. (kind of makes sense) (On Windows NT, I also tried updating from a saved 2.8alpha image which happened to start at update 1919... this one only had 2 second delays.) Anyway, the problem is pretty annoying... basically, if you try to update a 2.7 image to 2.8alpha on Windows or a Mac, it takes a *long* time, about 90 minutes longer than it should. - Doug Way EAI/Transom Technologies, Ann Arbor, MI http://www.transom.com dway(a)mat.net, @eai.com

Ralph Johnson and I are planning to offer a course on extreme programming (XP) May 15 - June 9 at UIUC in Champaign-Urbana Illinois. Students will learn XP by working as an XP team to build a multiuser multimedia system in Squeak. There is a course description at http://wiki.cs.uiuc.edu/cs497rej/XP+workshop. Found it my self and it seems to be a feature of PluggableTextMorph. I find this feature really annoying. Maybe a preference is in place ?
