from preamble: The comment and the implementation do not agree. The implementation does not answer the result of evaluating the exceptionBlock if there are no elements before it... instead it raises a different error. Should the comment change or the implementation? Submitted is a change of the implementation.

OOram has an extension to the Notifier that invites the user to send a bug report. This report consists of the user's comment, user identification, and a textual dump of the stack. The bug report is written to a file for later transfer to the OOram maintainer. The maintainer has a program that recreates the stack in the maintainer's image so that he or she can investigate the reason for the error. Probably out of scope for what is discussed here because it is a fairly large piece of SW. I have included two screenshots and the VW code here in case anybody should care to look at it. Welcome To...

The Welcome To... window in the current release is a bit of a mess. I've spent a little while trying to improve it but it's not an easy thing to do - probably why it's so inadequate right now. My suggestion (a partial version of which is attached) is that it ought to include right at the top a logically expanding intro to how to use the system. After a very brief 'what am I' I'm suggesting how to use the scrollbar (because you need to in order to get to the rest), about menu buttons and then menus how to text edit (menu stuff, key commands) moving and resizing windows and panes halos (so by now they can at least cope with a menu or halo they inadvertently open or a window that keeps moving) flaps ???? After this short UI tutorial - which would be nice if done with suitable graphics and live demos - we can talk about the features; sound graphics networking project squeakmap IDE etc many of which have a project with the Worlds of Squeak project that could be pointed to or included. and then finally point to the swiki etc. I think this needs to be something to draw new users into our web and get them off to a good start. I would suggest that an even more pedantic, careful and extensive version ought to be built for the Full image, since that is eventually the system we'd offer as a newbies first experience. For people that already know the info it needs to be trivial to close it and preferably to drop it from their personal image to save the memory. There is quite a lot of the needed material already around on the net and it needs pulling together. I've made a small start with the attached edit of the original. And of course there are a lot of places to defer work once you really get into the thick of things and start mentioning music, etoys, networking, etc. Also, I'd like to toss out that if we only have *one* volunteer who attempts a new welcome-to-squeak setup of the image, then that one volunteer should automatically win the "competition" and should not have to go through piles of review. It really seems like any motivated editor is going to do better than piles of small submissions that we all review individually. And if there is actually some dissent, I think people should have to come up with a *complete* replacement that we can then vote on. A good introduction is a crystal and not a ball of chocolate. -Lex PS -- the idea of linking off to Play With Me projects is great. There could be more of this....

The window label fix operated differently depending on which VM I used. It seemed to work on the unix vm 3.7b-5 but I still had the same problem after loading the change set on my mac vm 3.7.3Beta4. Playing with this further I found that removing the change set does not remove the problem -- it only leaves when I redo the window label ( title ) font size. I keep most of my windows collapsed along the side until I need a particular one then when I expand one ( after loading CS 5923 ) the fonts on the labels of all the windows change their size simultaneously ( they all get smaller ) and the white stripe appears. It happens on all windows old as well as new. The same behavior is exhibited after the window label fix . The only thing I can do is to go into the system fonts and change the size by hand. This fix worked on my Unix 3.7b-5 VM ( using imac ) but did not work on on my 3.7.3Beta4 Vm. On my 3.7.3Beta4 VM as soon as I expanded a collapsed window the fonts in all the remaining windows reverted to a smaller font and I got the white line in my window labels. As soon as I changed the font size of the window labels I got the normal windows again. This goes away if I remove change set 5923-PSPointSizeFix-ns. I'm a fairly new squeaker so I don't even know where to begin to fix it, but I hope this info helps. Steve Moffitt

Two months ago, the OnmiBrowser was published at SqueakMap. I found a small problem with OBChoiceRequest. To see the problem, evaluate this statement and dismiss the menu that appears with a mouse click *outside* the menu. OBChoiceRequest prompt: 'Select an option or dismiss this prompter. please.' labels: #('Remove it' 'Remove, then browse senders' 'Don''t remove, but show me those senders' 'Forget it -- do nothing -- sorry I asked') values: #(doRemove removeAndBrowse simpleBrowseSenders nil). You get an error notifier, as OBChoiceRequest>>defaultAction fails. Attached you find a proposal for a fix. The solution is very simple: We have to ensure correct hadling of a zero that is answered by a PopUpMenu that was dismissed in the way described above. Greetings, Boris
