Folks: Someone edit http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/5934 and is saying this now is ready for inclusion in updates. I send this to general list as I don't see any note or further code to my last ask in Mantis. So, please, what code is not in 3.10.1 7156, the last we have ? Very thanks ! Edgar

CommandShell and stream protocol

I installed CommandShell in a small 3.7 image. On evaluating the following line in a bash shell I get a 4 lines response of file paths find /home/frits/DB -exec grep -q "France" ''{}'' \; -print When I evaluate command := PipeableOSProcess command: ' find /home/frits/DB -exec grep -q "France" ''{}'' \; -print' . in a workspace I get a string with the correct 4 file names separated by ASCII 10. The documentation (almost unique in the Squeak world, thanks;) states that there are three streams: input output and error. Thus I expected to use a stream protocol like: command := PipeableOSProcess etc output := command output. [output atEnd] whileFalse: [ output next......] and get myself a list (and not a string) of file names. I must misunderstand something. Any way of achieving such an result: e.g. a pipe which blocks till items are removed? (I googled and searched the archives, no luck although I believe this must have come up before.)

Meaning of Float negativeZero is to represent a negative number so small that we cannot represent it with smallest available Float... That occurs after an underflow. Like for example -1.0e-300 * 1.0e-100 We know it is negative, but in the same time, we cannot distinguish it from zero... IEEE 754 decided that (Float negativeZero = 0.0) = true Rationale: there is no positiveZero, so there is no reason why (-1.0e-300 * 1.0e-100 = 0.0) = false while (1.0e-300 * 1.0e-100 = 0.0) = true A consequence of this in Squeak is: Float negativeZero negative = false As the name does not tell... Tricky Float... I will try to play with this logic: One feature in IEEE is division by a negativeZero: (1.0 / Float negativeZero) is expected to produce a negative infinity. So I expect a breach of logic with: (1.0 / Float negativeZero) negative = true Not in Squeak, we are saved by a ZeroDivide... Sure I can make it with FloatArray: (1.0 / (FloatArray with: Float negativeZero)) first negative = true But there - I find a bug (http://bugs.squeak.org/view.php?id=6782) - after correcting, still have a ZeroDivide. Do I lack the plugin?

5.3 printShowingDecimalPlaces: 2 displays '5.29' instead of '5.30'

Hi there, I'm geting this unexpected result from a Squeak 3.9 final 7067 image. I need to display money values with two digits. Has anybody a sugestion to correctly achieve this? thanks, Sebastian Sastre

Compiling a role name into a message to self

I am just completing an experiment where I am programming with roles. A role name stands for one or more objects; the actual binding occur at run time. Example: /(self playerForRole: #currentStar) displayLarge/ It would be much more readable if I could write something like /¤currentStar displayLarge / or /§currentStar displayLarge/ or / :-) currentStar displayLarge /or ... /currentStar /is a role name, /self playerForRole:/ searches down the stack to find the appropriate object binding . I suppose I have to choose an appropriate syntax and doctor the compiler. Any ideas? [Smalltalks 2007] --- Presentation commentary available in English
