I'm not so worried about the double-indent, but could we also see a test for the #reformulateList please? There is a test for autoSelectString working, in a slightly different context, in MessageSetTest>>testAutoSelectString. As it happens, #selectMessageNamed: calls #autoSelect under certain conditions: (selectedMessageName notNil and: [ autoSelectString notNil and: [ self contents notEmpty ] ]) ifTrue: [ self changed: #autoSelect ]. So I had a go at writing a test demonstrating the fix your code provides, but it's not quite right: testRemoveMessageFromBrowserPreservesAutoSelectString browser autoSelectString: 'browseAllImplementorsOf:'. self assert: browser autoSelectString = 'browseAllImplementorsOf:'. browser messageListIndex: 2. updates removeAll. browser removeMessageFromBrowser. self assert: (updates includes: #autoSelect). He is an experienced Java developer. After some time he started to complain about Pharo. I was discussing with him and now think that he has some valid points. His biggest complaint is: "Why does Pharo always show windows at sizes and positions I don't want?" I answered him: You could set the standard window size in the class RealEstateAgent and furthermore you can create or change >>initialExtent methods in every class that is involved. But his answer was: Why should I do that? It's the responsibility of an IDE. I don't want to program elementary things of my IDE. Why is there no mechanism that let a user set the sizes and positions of windows? Netbeans and Eclipse are doing that nicely. Why isn't it possible in Pharo? After that discussion I now question my own way of using Pharo and Squeak. I have created some changesets that I used to file in when using a fresh image. But that seems stupid now... His second complaint was that he doesn't like the cluttered windows. While programming he had a lot of open windows and told me that he lost overview. Especially in Pharo he is complaining about minimized windows that are hard to distinguish. He better likes Dolphin with tabbed windows that are common in other IDE's. Regards Andreas

Other One of the concerns we've had about legacy packages relates to when the primary maintainers of those packages have departed the community. For this, there seemed to be consensus that it would be "ok" to add additional releases that were up-to-date for the most current versions of Squeak - leaving the original authors legacy work (for old Squeak versions) intact. I think we should consider expanding this to include projects for which we can't get action. The goal is to provide working software packages for modern Squeaks - so what's the difference between someone who has "departed" vs. someone who does not have time / inclination / whatever to assist with keeping their package up to date? I sent private e-mails months ago to several folks who are not departed regarding projects which are in Extending the System workspace about pasting them into the SM Catalog scripts. But when those e-mails are ignored, Squeak suffers for no good reason. I'm trying to do the polite thing by letting the owner take responsibility but, that failing, maybe we should have a warning-protocol which would eventually allow us to take matters into our own hands. To reiterate, the CSP security of SqueakMap only allows _adding_ of new CSP releases (which can then be udpated in case of bugs, etc) - not updating the authors original releases. What do you think?

The goals of the workshop is to create a forum around advances or experience in Smalltalk and to trigger discussions and exchanges of ideas. Participants are invited to submit short and not-so short research articles. We will not enforce any length restriction. However we expect papers of two kinds: * Short position papers describing emerging ideas. * Long research papers with deeper description of experiments and of research results. TOPICS We welcome contributions on all aspects, theoretical as well as practical, of Smalltalk related topics such as: * Aspect-oriented programming, * Meta-programming and Meta-modeling, * Frameworks, * Interaction with other languages, * Implementation, new dialects or languages implemented in Smalltalk, * Tools, * Design patterns, * Experience reports PUBLICATION Both submissions and final papers must be prepared using the ACM SIGPLAN 10 point format.
