Hi all! :-) After some recent fun with the Unicode class, I found out that its data is quite out of date (for example, the comments do not even "know" that code points can be longer than 4 bytes. Younger characters such as 😺❤🤓 are not categorized correctly, etc. ...). Luckily, there is already some logic to fetch the latest data from www.unicode.org<http://www.unicode.org>. I'm currently reworking this logic because it's not completely automated yet and has some slips, but so long, I have one general question for you: At the moment, we have 30 class variables each for one Unicode category number. These class vars map in alphabetical order to the integers from 0 to: 29. Is this tedious structure really necessary? For different purposes, I would like to get the category name of a specific code point from a client. The current design makes this impossible without writing additional mappings. Tl;dr: I would like to propose to drop these class variables and use Symbols instead. They are comparable like integers, and as they are flyweights, this should not be a performance issue either. Of course, #generalCategoryOf: will have to keep returning numbers, but we could deprecate it and use a new #generalTagOf: in the future. Furthermore, this would also allow us to deal with later added category names (though I don't know whether this will ever happen). Examples: Unicode generalTagOf: $a asUnicode. Hi all! This changeset refines the existing autoEnclose mechanism. Instead of having inserted enclosing brackets always, you can now activate a new preference to only insert these characters if there is any space after the cursor. This matches VS Code's setting value "beforeWhitespace" for "editor.autoClosingBrackets". To me, this mode feels much more convenient because when having traditional autoEnclose enabled, I have been getting angry again and again when I wanted to bracketize an existing expression in some code and suddenly was disrupted by an unneeded closing bracket. The changeset does not manipulate any defaults. The PreferenceWizard and the ReleaseBuilder are updated, too. Please honor the postscript of the changeset when merging it. Hi all, if a new window is invoked via a keyboard gesture, with the proposed changeset, the keyboard focus is automatically passed to the new window. See SystemWindow >> #defaultFocusMorph. By default, the first keyboard-interested (sub)+morph is selected, but you can specify a different focus holder by setting the #defaultFocusMorph property of the window or the #defaultFocus parameter of the pluggable window spec. I think this improves the keyboard workflow in Squeak a bit. For instance, it enables the following workflows: - Ctrl + 0 (search bar), type '6 * 7', Alt + o (spawn), Alt + p (print it) - Ctrl + 3 (Tools menu), type 'browser', Enter, Alt + f (find), type 'Object', Enter Please review and merge if you don't have any objections. PositionableStream >> #peekBack behavior

Hello, What is the expected behavior for a stream that is at position 1 when you send #peekBack? Intuitively I'd expect to get the first element of the underlying collection as a response. But instead I am getting nil. Here is an example that is failing: ``` elem := #(1 2 3 4). stream := ReadStream on: elem. first := stream next. first = 1. back := stream peekBack. back = first. ``` The last message is currently responding false. In Pharo this returns true, so there are differences. The currently implementation of PositionableStream >> #peekBack is: ``` peekBack "Return the element at the previous position, without changing position. Hi everyone, I am quite puzzled that the following answers false: DateAndTime today asDate = Date today. The reason seems to be the localOffsetSeconds. While DateAndTime today asDate has a local timezone, Date today has not. Shouldn’t this be consistent? The following answers false as well: Date today start = DateAndTime today I assume it is for the same reason. I suppose this is a feature, not a bug, but what is the reason for this behaviour? Yeah, this topic again, but before we release the next version of Squeak, I thought we maybe could slightly round off our list of preferences in order to improve the initial experience for new Squeakers even more! I have went through the entire list of preferences and identified several regressions and dead preferences (you may have noticed a number of other recent contributions by me regarding this topic), but I also made a list of default preference values with which I personally do not really agree, so I thought we could discuss them here. I'm trying to be brief: 1. Windowing Personally, the first thing I do in every new image is to enable these prefs: "mouse over for keyboard focus", "open tools attached to mouse cursor", "windows' contents are always active". Do I belong to a minority of Squeakers or could we satisfy a majority of Squeakers by turning on these prefs by default? 2. Tools Very brief suggestions: - TextDiffBuilder ignoreLineEndings -> true - Show annotation pane in the debugger -> true - Extra debugger buttons -> true - Show stack variables in debugger -> maybe? I like it, does it harm? - Stack Size in Notifier/Full Debugger -> increase by factor 2 or more, should not be a performance issue nowadays, but increases convenience 3. Morphs - Wrapped tree navigation -> true (just consistent to lists) - Use the new color-picker -> true (c'mon, this tool is already >11 years old! :p) 4. Editing - Auto enclose brackets -> #beforeSpaces (see [1], pending.
