While ExceptionInFFICallError has both a custom name and an extra slot, you can use any custom instance of PrimitiveError to pass scoped error codes from failing primitives such as the existing #'operating system error' and its platform-specific error codes. However, you would need to reserve a new index in the error table and thus update the special-objects array. Therefore, custom VM plugins might want to choose an extra interface to communicate failed operations. For example, SqueakFFI uses #getLastError and #externalCallFailed to fabricate readable error messages. transparency, black, and PNG files

Hi List, I have a 32-bit Form I imported from a PNG without an alpha layer that has a black background for transparency, but this is what I get when I examine it in the inspector: self pixelValueAt: 1@1. 4278190080 . self pixelValueFor: Color black. 4278190081 . self colorAt: 1@1. Color transparent . self isTransparentAt: 1@1. false . self pixelValueFor: Color transparent. 0 . I feel like having #colorAt: answer transparent while #isTransparentAt: answers false is a bug.

Hello All, Our last news update was 6 years ago. https://news.squeak.org/ That is a very long time to have nothing happen! It is entirely my fault although I have been asking for someone to take it over. I haven't done it often enough. I'm doing it again now. HELP! Ok to try and do it a bit better. Why: because not everyone reads the mailing list. It is a good way to reach potential and existing users of Squeak to let them know what is going on. Small simple regular articles about what is happening is a great way to promote the squeak community and to give it more life. I still believe that news.squeak.org has real value and it would be great to have someone, who does read the mailing lists, post articles about what is going on. It doesn't have to be big events, just interesting ones that squeak users would want to know. The articles don't have to be long, just a paragraph or two and a picture would be nice. There are a ton of things that have happened in the past 6 years but we don't have to go backwards even just going forwards would help. Since news.squeak.org started we have had 750K views. our best month had 25K views. Our top article is this: https://news.squeak.org/2007/12/29/old-smalltalk-pics-from-parc-place/ with 35K views. Would someone or everyone that reads the smalltalk lists please step up and agree to periodically post articles to news.squeak.org? In other words: HELP! If you are willing to help please contact me and I'll give you an account on our wordpress site so you can start posting articles. I can also answer any questions and help get you started. System Browser change title->rename a category->title reverts to original

Hi Folks, Squeak6.1alpha-22713-64bit.image I keep several browsers handy with custom names so I can switch context quickly. When I change the title, I found that it sometimes reverts to the default title. I found this happens when I rename a method category. cordially, tty

Ubuntu 20 or 22 (tested on both), Qwertz keyboard layout, trying to enter different characters into a Workspace using dead keys: - <kbd>^</kbd> (circumflex) + <kbd>^</kbd> (circumflex): `^` (as expected) - <kbd>^</kbd> (circumflex) + <kbd>Space</kbd>: expected `^`, got ` ̂` (space + U+0302 COMBINING CIRCUMFLEX ACCENT, rendered as question mark in Squeak) - <kbd>´</kbd> (acute accent) + <kbd>´</kbd> ´</kbd> (acute accent): expected `´`, got `'` (single apostroph, depending on your editor preferences, this character might be duplicated automatically) - <kbd>´</kbd> (acute accent) + <kbd>Space</kbd>: expected `'`, got ` ́` (space + U+0301 COMBINING ACUTE ACCENT, rendered as question mark in Squeak) - <kbd>\`</kbd> (grave accent) + <kbd>\`</kbd> (grave accent): `` ` `` (as expected) - <kbd>\`</kbd> (grave accent) + <kbd>Space</kbd>: expected `'`, got ` ̀` (space + U+0300 COMBINING GRAVE ACCENT, rendered as question mark in Squeak) When typing the "mixed dead keys" (ending in Space) into a keyboard exerciser morph, an error is raised because the combining accent keycodes are not known by `EventSensor class>>#virtualKeyTable`. The expected inputs are what most other applications such as the gnome desktop environment or Chromium on the same machine behave like. I don't know enough about this domain to even say whether this should be fixed in the image or the VM.
