Hi Karl --
Try using just "TextStyle defaultFont", maybe "TextStyle defaultTTFont". There is no family "ComicBold" in default Squeak.
You could also fallback to UI fonts: Preferences standardDefaultTextFont. Preferences standardButtonFont. Preferences standardBalloonHelpFont.
