Folks,
curiously, some of the built-in StarSqueak examples don't show up in the objects browser (cmd-o from the world menu). May have been accidental, may have been intentional -- as the worlds already start to run in the Hand.
If they've only been left out by accident, file in the accompanying changeset which fills in the StarSqueak category.
Enjoy, Helge
Helge,
The reason the other built-in StarSqueak examples are not offered in the Objects tool is precisely the one you guess: they take so long to launch that the "feel" of dragging them out from the object-picker is all wrong.
Though one may debate the merits of the decision, it was definitely intentional rather than accidental.

PS: I agree that we need a good name for this tool, and that "Objects Tool" is *not* such a good name. Suggestions welcome!
PPS: Note that whether or not you can find a particular morph in the Objects tool, you can always obtain a sample instance of any morph class directly from a Browser or MessageSet -- just select the class you want, and then choose "sample instance" from the shifted class-list or shifted selector-list menu. This feature has been present in the system for a year and a half, though I don't believe I've ever seen evidence of anyone having noticed it.

Hmm. How about a mechanism to (conditionally?) stop Morphs from stepping *on* the Hand then. Let them start stepping once they've been placed in the world. I'm no Morphic expert, but doesn't that sound reasonable? Rather than leaving them out of the MorphBrowser, selectively?

Ah, OK then. ;-)

How about "MorphBrowser"? We see categories, we see thumbnails, we drag out instances.

Semantic gap, I guess. Would invoking a command over the map give you an instance of something in the territory -- who'd suspect so?
Cheers, Helge

I think of it as a launch pad so maybe 'morph launch pad'

I use it all the time, it's a convenient shortcut to get instances without typing.

How about (well behaved)'morph launcher'?
Incidentally, I still think "Classic NewMorphMenu" should be the _default_ preference as it's the win/win (object tool and old style menu) option.

Thanks Scott. It is pretty well hidden! I'll pop your text in a workspace so I can remember how to use it/find it!
