| As you said, the problem seems to be intermittent and is very difficult

  Bingo. I tried it on the two development machines (one linux, one
OS-X): I start the image, the application starts up, the browser
shows no styles; I load your patch, click on "new session", there
they are! And the halo icons too.

  So if it's not THE cause, it at least has some visible effect.
