Avi and I (and probably others) are members of the Ruby community.

Randal Schwartz, I and several others are members of the Perl=20
community.

One long-running discussion in those two communities has to do with a=20
common bytecode interpreter/jitter (like Parrot); Squeak has been=20
pretty independent along these lines.

I think that many Rubyists would be easily attracted to Squeak due to=20
the similarities in the object model and its nicer environment; don't=20
know about Perl people.
