Squeak Oversight Board Election 2013

Hi All, Its that time again. First I would like to take a moment to thank Göran for running the elections all these past years. I would also like to thank you for your vote of confidence in letting me step in to run the elections. I hope that I can live up to Göran excellent example. Every year we elect the SOB (Squeak Oversight Board) consisting of seven members from our community. The current board is: http://www.squeak.org/Foundation/Board Everything about the election, including schedule and more, can be tracked here: http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/6191 *** Now until Monday 28th of January 3PM (20.00 UTC): Nominations of SOB members and campaigning! Candidates should nominate themselves and start their campaign on the squeak-dev mailing list. Or if you nominate someone else, make sure that person really wants to run. :) I will not put anyone on the candidate list until that person makes it known on squeak-dev that he/she does run. During this period, the candidates should ideally present themselves on squeak-dev, unless they have already done so, and the community can ask questions. I encourage you to reach out to potential candidates, people that are active in the community and represent your views, and ask them to run. Some people will not run without encouragement. *** Monday 28th of January 2013 3PM (20.00 UTC): The candidate list is finalized. *** Monday 28th of January 2013 6PM (23.00 UTC): Online election starts The voting period is one week long and ballots are sent out via email. And how do you end up on the voter list? See below. :) IMPORTANT: New voters will NOT be added once the election is started. You MUST try to get on the voter list before the 28th of January 2013 or you will NOT be able to vote. If your Email has changed make sure it is changed on the list of voters before the election starts. *** Monday 4th February 6PM (23.00 UTC): Online election ends Results will be announced immediately when the election ends. -------------------------- If you were invited to vote last year you are already on the voter list, no worries! If you are a new Squeaker and wish to vote do ONE of the following: * Get a "known" Squeaker to vouch for you. If a known Squeaker sends an email to voters (at) squeak.org giving me name and email for you, then I will add you. * Send an email to voters at squeak.org yourself (and CC to squeak-dev if you like) with information/arguments showing me that you are indeed serious about voting and that you are indeed a Squeaker. And no, I don't have any hints on what you should write! :) Unless you totally screw that up, you will probably be added. And no, don't send me a 10 page essay ;) When the voting period starts all voters will receive an email with instructions and a link to the voting website. Hi All, Just thought I would volunteer to run the upcoming elections. Ive been quite busy so I havent had much time to participate in the community as much as I would like. Maybe this will be a good way to get back involved. Ive been a part of the Squeak Community for a long time. Ive run the election voting process in the past so Göran shouldnt have much to do to pass the baton. I believe Im the person that asked Göran to take the position in the first place. Definining the Elections process

The Oversight Board is currently in the process of finalizing an agreement with the Software Freedom Conservancy for Squeak to join the conservancy. One crucial part of this agreement describes how the governing committee (Squeak Oversight Board) is elected. This has not exactly been set in stone as we have changed the details somewhat over the last few years and it has tended to be somewhat informal and adhoc. I and Cees closed the SqueakPeople site which was part of the original process and so while we are using the original data from there we no longer have the original mechanism for updating the voter list. How does the election team see the current process? Are changes likely in the next year or two? Can you help us write up a short but complete description of the process? I'm sure we can update the agreement if the process changes, but we need to do the best we can on the version that we actually sign. Thanks, Ken

New Team Advisor

Yoshiki Ohshima has been this team's advisor (interface to the Board) in the past but he retired this year. Andreas Raab has volunteered to take over for him and will be this team's advisor for 2009. Ken

Time to get back to work!

It's that time again. I'm not the team leader but I'm going to take it upon myself to poke him (poke poke Goran). We need to start preping for the 2009 Leadership elections. First up we need to talk about how we go about vetting new voters. We no longer have Squeak People. I still have the voting list though so we are fine as far as people who have voted in the past. We do need to send out something to check mailing addresses though. As far as I see it we don't need much to vette voters. Let's just post the eligibility list somewhere and ask anyone not on it to email squeak-dev and ask for eligibility. If we don't recognize them then we can ask on the list for someone to speak up for them. This could take sometime though so we should get started. I'm up for other solutions but we don't have too much time at this point. Ken
