Magma for 3.9

I've just posted Magma for Squeak 3.9 (7057) on the MagmaTester project. The upgrade to work with 3.9 was relatively uneventful; the biggest change was to include serialization of Pragmas in CompiledMethods. There were also some methods renamed. In order to have just one code base, I had to put a couple of "is3dot9" checks into the code. And due to the extension methods on Pragma and MethodProperties, Monticello will also report a warnning now when trying to load into a 3.8 image. So, for now, I've just put it into MagmaTester to see what anyone else thinks; deal with a couple (literally, two, I think) of ugly conditionals and a warning when loading for 3.7 and 3.8, or maintain two versions (branches) of the code.. I really don't want to maintain two branches, but yet the load warning might be a real turn off for (new) people unless they know to expect it somehow.. Of course, if 3.9 is the future then it won't be an issue. Enjoy, and thanks for any feedback..

Merging Magama object repository

I am completely new to Magma, but I am looking at using it both on a locale application in Squeak (Single-user mode) and in server/mode. I am looking at a situation where the locale application is some time not connected to the net, in this case the objects are saved locally in a single-user Magma DB. Then when connexion to the net is back, what is a proper way to syncrhonize the local Magma DB to the distant Magma DB? Hilaire

Hi Göran, thanks for the image. It really does make the difference between total speculation and finding a plausible explanation. As it turns out, the root Q2User's model's processes is a proxy with no session. The only way this could possibly happen is if sessions were once cleaned up (MagmaSession cleanUp) which becomes them all to nil. The proxies in the image at that time now suddenly reference nil instead of their session. Without a session, materialization cannot succeed, these proxy's are useless. The proxy does not check for a nil session and therefore, the resulting DNU results in the classic "non-debuggerable situation". http://lists.squeakfoundation.org/pipermail/squeak-dev/2005-January/087592.… which is a Squeak bug introduced in 3.8 (it didn't occur in 3.7) that results in the orgy of spawning Processes instead of a debugger. This image needs to be cleaned up and the problem should go away, but obviously something better needs to be done with the #cleanUp method so this situation doesn't happen again. Honestly, we may just need a #fixTemps somewhere in the Magma code for the sessions to be properly garbage collected, and then the #cleanUp probably won't even be needed anymore... Hi Keith, I will need a few days to get time to look at this closely, but it looks great on the surface so far. I'm all for better integration with the host OS w.r.t. paths, etc. Of course, platform independence is a requirement. Let me ask you, did you run the test cases with these changes and did they all pass? Thanks..! Hi all, thank you for Magma. I'm trying to load it in 3.9, but this hangs since modules.squeakfoundation.org is unresponsive. Questions - Why is monticello going to that site ? Why is that site offline ? Is there any other way I can get the latest and greatest Magma installed in my image ?
