Subject: [Squeakland] SqueakFest '07 - Save the Date!
To: "squeakland.org mailing list" <squeakland(a)squeakland.org>
Greetings!
Thanks to the continued interest and generosity of Columbia College Chicago,
we are delighted to announce SqueakFest '07!
The dates for this year's gathering are:
*August 1, 2 & 3*
Hands-on Workshops Wednesday, August 1st
Keynotes, presentations & panels Thursday and Friday, August 2 & 3
SqueakFest is open to educators, parents (homeschoolers, other) developers,
community technology center leaders, etc., etc. -- anyone interested in
working with Squeak Etoys.
This year we're planning a special track on the One Laptop Per Child
Initiative ($100 laptop) and welcome participation by Etoy content
developers for this particular platform in addition to those using or
planning to use Squeak Etoys on other computing platforms. (For those who
may be unaware, Squeak Etoys is currently one offering provided on the $100
laptop which is being distributed in great quantity this year.)
Please save these dates and help spread the word to colleagues and friends
you think would be interested in attending.
We'll be sending a "call for presentations" in early April and also
launching the official SqueakFest '07 website at that time.
Please mark your calendar and plan to join us in Chicago for SqueakFest
'07.
Please "stay tuned" for more details!
regards,
Kim

Hi Chinese squeakers,
First, I would say sorry that it is really long time there isn't any update
for Chinese squeak. Because I was a little bit buzy. I think the best way
for the Chinese squeak growth is to make more and more people get involved.
Anyway a community can do much more than any individuals.
I put the Yoshiki Oshima's Chinese supporting source code here:
http://chinesesqueak.googlecode.com/svn/branches/3.8/
So anyone can access it.
I list many things we can considered to do next, they are:
- Make change to Yoshiki's original souce, so it can also work with 3.9,
the main stream of squeak. (catch the mainstream)
- Build a more friendly Chinese squeakland plugin for kids, but not the
developing image (so hard for kids)
- Create some video tutorials in Chinese, as suggest by jimg1968, it is the
best way to instruct people how to use squeak.
- Go on translate more books/web pages, especially those like 'Powerful
idea'.
- Create Chinese squeak e-toys and projects. It is very important that
these etoys and projects are created by kids and teachers, but not by
developers as emphasised by Kelvin1945.
Any comments are welcome.
Yours,
Liu.
