This required care in choosing the source quadrilateral points, but I believe they are bit-perfect now. Did you try those routines exactly as presented? I just now tried out the following demo which picks a rectangle on the screen, blows it up 3x, then shrinks that down by 3x, and displays the result at 0@0... Display restoreAfter: [[Sensor anyButtonPressed] whileFalse: [(((Form fromDisplay: (Sensor cursorPoint extent: 400@400)) magnifyBy: 3.0) magnifyBy: 1/3.0) display]] This appears to faithfully recreate the orginal form with no artifacts. By default, it uses smoothing in the shrink direction, but I also patched it to avoid smoothing altogether and the result was equally perfect. >PS. [ENH] Celeste speedup for many messages

The attached Celeste change set speeds up sending and receiving email, as well as the display of large categories. Actual changes are quite very localized. Details from the change set comment are included below. Mike p.s. Happy new year to all of you! Change Set: CelesteSpeedups Date: 3 January 2000 Author: Mike Rutenberg (mdr(a)scn.org) These changes are important in speeding up Celeste mailboxes containing several thousand messages or when running on slower computers. (1) Removes a redundant (and very costly) self changed: message from updateTOC. When displaying a new/modified large category (e.g. the 8000 Squeak messages of last year) it cuts the (Morphic) update time almost in half from 14 seconds. (2) Change to eliminate saving the category and index file to disk after retrieving new messages or sending messages. The message contents continue to be immediately flushed to the message file when they are retrieved from the server or typed to be sent. This change makes sending and retrieving messages significantly (!!!!) faster. Discussion of possible dangers of (2): I believe that this introduces no new dangers, while significantly improving the performance of Celeste. There are a number of ways the index might differ between Squeak and disk, such as when you move a message between categories. In the case of Squeak crashing before the index does get saved, choosing 'compact' from the categories menu will rebuild the index file based on the contents of the message file. In the worst case, it is possible to construct a scenario in which a Squeak crash would result in outgoing messages being sent twice. Goal for the future: Make saving/restoring the Celeste index file to disk so fast that it can be done with any change

It would be nice to search for strings, senders, implementors, references, etc, etc in everything, a class, a class hierarchy, a class category (environment?), a change set, a message browser, etc, etc. Even more cool would be a negated search so that one could find, e.g. senders of #drawOn: which are NOT implementors of #drawOn: Cheers, Bob

Squeak as (and) "Das Glasperlenspiel"

Hello to all Squeakers! I would be grateful if someone from Squeak Central (Alan Kay?) could answer a few of my questions below: 1) "Why the Computer Revolution hasn't happened yet?" (Alan's last year's talk at CMU): Is there a transcript of it or something like that? If not, what would be Squeak's role in helping with it (Computer Revolution)? 2) Finding aha vectors (Alan Kay and 'HOPL II - Closing Panel'): Regarding the extensible Smalltalk and flexible syntax (long time ago). Wouldn't it be possible that after so many unreadable Smalltalk programs, we would get one, which would be written by Herman Hesse (probably not at this meta level (1962), but maybe at another one)? What are (will be) Squeak's aha vectors? 3) What would be a Second Generation MOP? Third, ...? Would it go beyond the approach in 'The Art of the Metaobject Protocol'? Mentioning this book and "on-backstage" approach wouldn't it be better to try "on-audience" approach (different meta topology where audience, kids, developers, ... are part of it). Is that what Squeak's role might be regarding 1)? To allow everyone to play Glass Bead Games? TIA Kokan

testing smalltalk applications.

Hi, Is there any package in squeak community to "test" smalltalk application? In general, what are the methods to test smalltalk application? Module or Control, or View individually, or combination of M-V-C. Manual test, or automatic test? Testing to my concern is validating a feature or features that are up to expectation. For example, how do I know at specific area the color is red, not green; not exactly #CC0000 vs #-00CC00, but relatively. Regards, Techin Alex Kang

Documentation and Help System

Hi, I am a newbie, I would like to know where to find the documentation and help for using the classes in the system. Example Problem: I am trying to use the Socket class but am unable to do it.
