Avi writes: I noticed recently that Tcl/Tk for the mac works extremely well, using real native widgets. That might turn out to be easier to bind to than WxWindows, since I don't know how much trouble it would be to do a C++ plugin. But, really, we should just do a decent ObjC bridge one of these days... --------- That would be nice (and shouldn't be too hard) but wxwindows makes portable guis - which is one of ST's big wins. There's a place for both I think.

Steve, I get the same error using the debugger to send a stack trace in. Here by hand is the messages sent by debugger. [SVIBUG]Can't use Browser

With SVI installed on Mac OS 10.3.2 , using 3.7.1b2 vm and image with update #5657, after trying to look at SVI method in browser, whenever I try to look at a method I am put in the debugger with message not understood ( StandardFileSream(PositionableStream)>>#isSeparator. Does the same trying to send debug report. I looked at the method and the only #isSeparator method was in Class Character. By the by this was in the docs which I missed === CAVEATS === 1. The current version of SVIKeymapper, the class that maps keystrokes to commands, cannot handle shifted control characters (control-x and X still work, just not control-shift-X). C. David Shaffer's enhancement to the KeyMapper package will be incorporated in a future version to allow control-shift keystrokes. Steve

Squeakland web Plugin

Hi, It looks that the Squeak web plugin is 3.2 image, am I wrong ? In this case what are limitations that e-toy programmers can encouter when building project using an older version of Squeak (3.5 or 3.6) ? Even with using a project made using Squeak 3.2, I can not view it inside a web page (using the <embed> tag). The project file is in the same directory as the html file... Now that I have focus policy under control -- I'm on to the next question (complaint :-) . I guess I'm spoiled by Emacs Logo/Scheme/Lisp modes, therefore I do miss several things in Squeak editor: (By editor I assume browser -- as far as I understand this is the place where the actual code gets written) 1) No automatic indentation? Is there a way to turn this on? Having to hit Tab repeatedly is disappointing. 2) Is there something like dabbrev mode that can be turned on in the browser/editor? I'm not a touch typist, and tend to make a lot of typos when typing long words, especially if they contain several capitals in the middle. (For uninitiated: dabbrev mode is dynamic abbreviation completion -- type a few beginning letters of a word and hit M-/ repeatedly until you get the right completion). Does anything like this exist in Squeak? -- Hrvoje

Error during install of KomHttpServer 6.2 in Squeak3.7a-5657 image

Hi, I get a pop up with "Error occured during install: UndefinedObject>>versionString" when attempting to install KomHttpServer 6.2 into a Squeak 3.7a-5657 image. A side note: If during the install I answer "yes" to the prompt about loading "KomPackaging" the error occurs much sooner than if you answer "no". Sounds like a SqueakMap 2 problem? Any ideas anyone? Hi, We are in need of authentication (e.g., secured login to obtain identity credentials) and secured TCP/IP (e.g., encryption) connections in Squeak/Croquet. I couldn't find much on this in the Wiki or the list. Do either of these exist in Squeak? Has anyone looked into these areas? Any good white papers? Issue papers? Who are the TCP/IP Squeak gurus, maintainers, Stewards (Andreas R., John M., Ian, Micheal R.)? What is the state of of the TCP/IP design (stable, redesign planned, redesign being worked on)? Any thoughts on the difficulties of implementation or probable development time? The SharedSmalltalk link in http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/squeak/2967 is dead What is the status of Squeak-E? Seemed to have some security in its implementation. I'd be interested in knowing how many hours of thought and development went into it. Thanks, Jack Keel University of Wisconsin

DVD translation for Italian?

[Q] asDate asNumber - not really working?

I'm writting a little app where I want to write out (in readable format) a fraction, and then later read it back in. At first, I thought I'd try converting the fraction to a string, and just write that out. Later, I would get that string, and just send it #asNumber. Interestingly, this doesn't work. So: (1/24) asString asNumber returns an error (At least one digit expected here). This is because the #asString puts parenthesis around the string. Next, I wondered how often this happened. So, I tried this with other objects. It works just fine with integers, floats, Dates, Times: 1 asString asNumber 2.392 asString asNumber 1 asString asNumber 2.392 asString asNumber However, it doesn't work with TimeStamps: TimeStamp fromString: (TimeStamp current asString) (note: no #asTimeStamp in String). I also note there isn't an #asFloat in String, which is probably just fine. For now, I will either create a new flavor of Float>>readFrom: to handle the ()'s around the number, or hack the current version in Float to read this.
