Project-specific preferences

Has anyone hacked together something to make the standard preferences project-specific? I searched the mailling list but don't see anything. I see that projects have "projectPreferenceFlagDictionary" but they don't seem that widely used. Things like colors and font sizes are often project-specific for me so I've written little scripts to swap preferences when I swap projects...it really isn't very convenient. Really this is rather a silly, low priority thing. I just like my tool colors to match my background :-) Assuming it hasn't been done, how's this for a quick way to make this work without having to rewrite all the references to Preferences....I could rename the Preferences class (without updating references), make a doesNotUnderstand: proxy, install it in Smalltalk at: #Preferences and have it look up the current project preferences to redispatch the message. Hi Avi, Thanks, that fixes it! We're down to only a few seconds. We were exploring some more, and it looks like there are simply many, many paths through our version history tree, due possibly to whatever number of merges we had done (not the majority of the updates, but still several). If I understand your fix correctly, the sorter now doesn't go down paths that it has already seen, making the search much smaller. (I'm cc'ing this to squeak-dev - hope you don't mind - to close the loop there as well.) What version of Monticello are you using? Monticello taking a long time to merge

Hi all, We have been using Monticello to manage a small project with three developers. We've noticed that merges have been taking a long time lately, maybe even minutes. We're up around 100 versions. Has anybody experienced this kind of thing? Is there anything we can do to speed things back up? Thanks, Ben Schroeder

Hi, I want to cast a object to a certain class. How can I do cast operation in Squeak as in other programming language? For example, I can do something like in java: String i = (String)str; I couldn't figure out the syntac for it. VM tools for winXP

So I have this winXP laptop. I want to try out some VM changes. WTFDIDo? I found a zip of various tools from Andreas on sourceforge but it's pretty old and tells me to alter autoexec.bat - which seems to be something XP doesn't possess. I haven't touched a windows machine in years (and I'm rapidly relearning why one wouldn't want to ever again) so you might as well treat me as a complete newby with it. Advice (other than defenestrating the machine) welcome. tim

Different review process for KCP changes?

Göran has been doing some excellent detective work related to my reported issue with code corrections in the workspace. He has tracked it down to a change made in update 5700 (KCP136MoveChangesLog). The change does not seem to be related to the purpose of the changeset. This is bad enough but what really bothers me is that there doesn't seem to have been any opportunity to review this change. I've searched and searched and searched and it doesn't appear that this changeset ever appeared on the lists. A variant number 116 did and was closed. What happened? Is there some other route that KCP changes go through? Ken
