FFI question

Hi ! First, I thank you for your answer to my previous question. I didn't know nothing about mangling. I was just wondering if I could use C++ constructors and destroyers with FFI ? Can I create C++ objects with squeak via FFI ? Updated PMD material

Hello again. Lee Salzman has drastically grown his original short paper on the PMD idea into a full thesis for his graduation requirements as well as put together a very nice slide presentation illustrating in simple terms what the benefits are to object-oriented programming. I've added a news item to the main site: http://slate.tunes.org and added them to the Recommended Reading node of the wiki. These are well worth reading, and summarize a lot of his work on Slate. Some notes on the technical optimizations that were helpful should also give some insight into what we've been looking at for performance boosts (beyond ditching the Lisp semi-compiler :). [BUG] ScrollPanes, please help!!

Hi, Lately I am having a lot of trouble with PluggableTextMorphs and PluggableListMorphs. What happens is that they seem not to layout themselves properly. Note that this happens when they are put into the world. Later if you call #extent: on them, or it's owner, the text, the list and the scrollbars are put on the right place. Here are 2 snippets of code that you can use to reproduce the problem. Please tell me if I am doing something wrong. Example with a PluggableListMorph : | m plm | plm _ PluggableListMorph on: [(1 to: 20) collect: [:ea | ea asString]] list: #value selected: nil changeSelected: nil. plm color: Color blue muchLighter duller; hResizing: #spaceFill; vResizing: #spaceFill. m _ BorderedMorph new extent: 100@200; color: Color white; layoutInset: 10; layoutPolicy: TableLayout new; addMorph: plm; yourself. m openInHand. Newbie look of project view

Hi everybody, I'm new to squeak and to learn something more I have tried the "Tutorial for Tamika Knox's class problem" from http://squeakland.org:8080/super/200 Most things worked out fine, but I didn't understand the part in the section "The Slicker Way To Select Continents & Countries" where he said: "Now we want to make our cutout Algeria into a button that will take us into the "Algeria Project". Look at Algeria's red handle menu and choose: mumble. Type in mumble followed by return." I have no idea what he is talking about... So, the question is: How can I make a project view look like a button, car, country or whatever but act like a project view ? Many thanks Juergen

Discussing Smalltalk

Hi people! James Robertson noticed a swedish article about Smalltalk and how it has affected languages and tools coming after it, all triggered by Alan's recent price. Changing protocols

Hi folks - I'm back playing with Squeak after a few year hiatus. Looks like folks have been busy!! A simple question that I couldn't find the answer to online anywhere: How do I change the protocol (is this a VW-specific term? Maybe it's classification) associated with a method? I tried drag-and-drop and various context menus, but no luck. I'm building an allowance-tracking system for my kids in Seaside. I gotta say - Seaside is *the* next killer app. I haven't been as excited about a technology since the Newton or Mosaic itself.
