pending printjob plugin for mac

I've changed the print job plugin to migrate from quickdraw copyBits and embedded postscript to use Quartz images and EPS. The driving reason for this is that old features do not work on MacIntel machines. If anyone is using the print job plugin on the mac and would like to test backwards compatibility, please email me for an early copy of the plugin. -- ======================================================================== === John M. Box-Admins Team Report for November, 2006

The box-admins team is reponsible for seeing that the community shared server is maintained and setting up any new features to be hosted on that server. For November 2006: Work on a Pier image for www.squeakfoundation.org continued with Brad Fuller. I worked with Klaus Witzel in an attempt to track Google Ad hits on the websites. Late in the month there was a problem on the server because the remote backup server was shut down but a daily process that attempts to backup to the server was not removed. These stacked up over weeks and ran up the usage considerably to the point that the server was highly unresponsive. Once I figured out the problem I cleaned it up and disabled the daily backup attempts. Other than a lack of overall backup, which will in time be addressed, things are back to normal now. I want to thank the community for the monetary support needed to fund these boxes and remind them that the bills continue to appear and that you can currently contribute to the hosting bills by going to http://discuss.squeakfoundation.org/ and clicking on the 'donate' button at the top right. Squeak and Namespaces

Ahoy! I know this might sound like a naive question... But why haven't we implemented namespaces yet? I'm sure there have been some attempts- but what is the status of namespaces in Squeak? I ask because it seems that, to me, it would be relatively easy to implement an intelligent namespace system in Squeak, something we all could decide on. It could even offer backwards compatibility in that, for now, all the classes in the image are just part of the default namespace, that way nothing gets broken. Ideas? Thoughts? Maybe a pointer to a discussion where this was already hashed out? Thanks! Regards, Aaron

SqueakMap Package Loader UI

Hi all, I spent yesterday evening demo'ing Squeak to a fellow who works with EdUbuntu and OLPC since he wanted to write his educational software in Squeak to save space on the laptop. His kids were there and really got into it after some of the capabilities were made more obvious. I got some great feedback, and it's always cool for me to show off Squeak games (the RTS that Eddie Cottongim made years ago is perhaps the best of the non-EToys style) and coding to kids, since I don't regularly work with them and most developers are such sticks-in-the- mud about the weird UI. Anyway, it occurred to me that just a little bit of effort in the UI design department would quickly improve Squeak's draw. Since I know the SqueakMap package loader and it's Squeak's gateway to the community for newbies as they start up Squeak (or should be), I started there. I've added some buttons to a toolbar at the top and stole MessageNames' search bar to be more clear about the UI. The best application code I found for Morphic UI was actually the IRC client, although it is a bit spec-heavy. What do people think of this idea? Particularly the package owners, like Göran, but also whoever is "in charge" of the overall UI face of Squeak (that is, whoever would complain loudest if I wanted to totally re-arrange the world menus). Also, which projects make this kind of effort obsolete or easier? I know about and like the Services/Commands framework and UI, and Tweak's menubar system, but don't know what they seek to replace. What I don't know is whether there is a simple menu-bar or other such system for easily setting up some shared-styled UI features that get the salient features right in front of the user instead of burying them in context menus. Squeak oxymorons: MatrixTransform2x3 identity does not behave as an identiy transformation

Hi Sungjin, Network programs benefit from TDD as much as any other program. "MaArmoredCode" is an extension to the SUnit testing that assists with automating the testing of network programs by conducting the test through remote-perform calls to other Squeak images, instructing them to exercise their own network code. You can even simulate server or network failures to exercise your error-handling, and then resume the network test. You have to define the network players and choose your own ports and the test-play ports up front. But once your TestCase subclass is set up, the suite of multiple images is all launched with one-click, courtesy of OSProcess. http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/squeak/2659

The Institute's founder and endower Professor Hasso Plattner, who is also co-founder and chairman of the supervisory board of SAP AG, has created the opportunity for students to enjoy a unique elite education in IT systems engineering in a professional and effective research environment with a strong practice orientation. Strange layout behavior with nested TableLayout and #spaceFill

With a morph containing complex submorphs with TableLayout and #spaceFill resizing attribute, I have found this strange behavior. When the Morph is open in the world, the layout is not correct (see screenshot BadLayout.png). If I resize this morph, the layout is recomputed correctly (see screenshot GoodLayout.png). Methods layoutChanged or changed does not help When the morph is displayed, sending twice a message (myMorph extent: myMorph extent + 1) update correctly the layout. The trick does not work when the morph is not displayed I tested this with 3.9 Hilaire Fernandes
