Jabber

Is anyone using the Jabber Client from squeak map? I need to use it to communicate with another Jabber system, I downloaded it to a 3.9 image but I could not get it to work. I will appreciate any comment on this library. Thanks r.

Hi, can somebody explain me the following result: [ stream := WriteStream on: String new. stream nextPutAll: 'something to be put'. stream nextPutAll: 'something else to be put too'. ] bench. ===> '206796.4407118576 per second.' . [ stream := WriteStream on: Array new. stream nextPutAll: 'something to be put'. stream nextPutAll: 'something else to be put too'. ] bench. ===> '26177.36452709458 per second.' Why does streaming over Strings is 10 times faster than streaming over Arrays? Thank you -- Damien Cassou

Mac Carbon VM 3.8.15b5 pending

I've pushed out a 3.8.15b5 to address an error in the 3.8.15b4 VM with the new browser plugin interface and firefox. http://www.smalltalkconsulting.com/squeak.html I added three new features. One is SqueakDebug setting in the VM and browser plugin to enable you to print some diagnostics messages for the browser interface and module loading, I'll add more message in the future. The second is a SqueakQuitOnQuitAppleEvent flag that is used to quit the VM immediately if we get the quit event, which happens when a user logs out. Likely this is the wrong choice, still for people doing vertical apps you need someone to prevent the VM from cancelling the logout process. MIT's Scratch will use this feature. Finally I altered the logic when we look at the edit menu 'Quit do not save' If the application has used the VM's builtin feature to modify the mac menus then they might have changed the menu item from 'Quit do not save' to perform Foobar. 3.8.15b5 squeakBrowser-info.plist add SqueakDebug parm (1) debug msgs, (0) no debug msgs npsqueak.c streamline context usage a bit, make local var versus on structure add logic to print msgs based on info.plist sqMacMain.c Add SqueakDebug parm (1) debug msgs, (0) no debug msgs debug messages for browser interface, and module loading Add SqueakQuitOnQuitAppleEvent, true if we should quit immediately if operating system sends us quit msg, as a result of logout. Hello, I just found after some (long) browsing the list of fixes candidates for 3.10 at http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/5934 I could put some requests, but: - i do not remember wiki account and password (and tonight, I am fed up browsing) - my proposals maybe are on already accepted or rejected list So, my question is where can i find those lists: - the list of Mantis fixes already accepted - the list of Mantis issues not ready to be included Bye Nicolas

Hello, Character>>asUnicodeChar seems weird: - either it returns an Integer - or a Character $A asUnicodeChar. 16r100000F asCharacter asUnicodeChar. Method comment says this method should be replaced... It has a unique sender CompoundTextConverter>>nextFromStream: Anyone having background knowledge to perform this clean-up ? Nicolas
