Loading .st is a problem for me

Hi... I still have a problem when loading .st files. It takes a very very long time... causing me not using squeak because I just can't load anymore any packages ! I noticed it with monticello... where the loading phase is blocking at the "snapshotting method" moment... Even loading, MCRepositories.st (which was instaneous before) takes ages.... Do you have any idea of the origin of this problem ? I'm lost... It's happening since I installed windows XP (all updades included) - to me, it has something to do with some primitive opening/writing files... hitting cmd+. brings the debugger to the method register... I also saw the method forcing the writting in the changes files... Do you have any idea, direction ? Thanks Cédrick

Hi, i'd like to appeal to all the font developers - if it's possible, could you base your great work on the DejaVu font family? These are a Bitstream Vera derivative, so the licensing should't be a problem, but with a lot of completed (and some ongoing) work on non-latin1 charsets - it might not seem like a big issue to you, but the complete lack/brokenness of international support holds a lot of people from using Squeak at all - and i must admit the font machinery in squeak is too complex for me, so i'm one of them in the present time. With the current FreeType fonts, Squeak is able to load the DejaVu fontsets and display at least the Czech (Latin-2) charset correctly (but the character mapping or input conversion on Win is somehow broken, so i can input them only with a Czech keyboard hack active). OpenMoko

The OpenMoko project (http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Main_Page) looks fascinating. I've downloaded the build environment with an eye to getting a Squeak VM and image running on it. The summary of the project: "OpenMoko is an attempt to create the world's first completely open mobile phone software stack. [...] OpenMoko is supposed to run on all kinds of Linux-capable mobile phones. The first fully supported OpenMoko phone is the FIC Neo1973." The hardware will be available to developers in the next few weeks. The first public release will be later in the year. All the software - drivers included - is open-source. Some highlights of the hardware: - VGA resolution (480x640) - Touchscreen + stylus - GSM - USB - 266 (?) MHz ARM CPU - 128 MB SDRAM - 64 MB NAND flash - wifi *may* be ready in time for the first iteration An ideal portable network-enabled squeak machine, perhaps! Tony

Omnibrowser and scrolling on left

Hi, I am working with the latest dev-beta images from Damien Cassou. It worked great until the last upgrades (from 107 to 116/118). I found the latest omnibrowser is not compatible with my image look'n feel. As I was a NeXT user, I do like to use the native scrolling/scrollBarsOnRight inactive preference (so I have the scrollbars on the left) and with this option PackageUniverse, PierBrowser... don't work (the upper columns have disappeared). So the only way to use (especially for the new UniversesBrowser) is to display scrollbar on the right (so unnatural for me hopefully I've got a mousewheel). I hope avi knows that (it looks like there are a lot of changes in the core of Omnibrowser). Regards, Martial Boniou

Closing windows with unsaved changes

Hi, I'm writing a deploy script for my image. In this script I want to close all windows. I do this via Morph>>delete. This doesn't work if there are unsaved changes. Often the workspace has unsaved changes and I like to close it regardless of unsaved changes. Norbert

Another Monticello weird thing... Hi. I am needing some help. I've been trying to track down Edgar's problem (the one that started this thread. I've got to the point that I've noticed something odd. So I would have expected unknown7 to have shown up as methodAdditions or as a generic t7. Anyway enlightenment would be welcome. Another Monticello weird thing...

Folks: I try to have the best Monticello in 3.10 . For this , I locate the last of Impara at http://bugs.squeak.org/view.php?id=4991 I wish keep the Ralph changes for the 3.10 release process. Made a Monticello-edc.316.mcz, test, all works. Copy to 3.10 repository, quit image without save. Loading via drag and drop or via FileList , all works. Loading via Monticello (what is what the update stream .cs should do). gives me the attached walkback and pict. Edgar
