Cuis problem with blocks

I'm attempting to get some code running on Cuis 2.0 and am having a problem with some pretty simple blocks like: [:sum :ea | sum := sum + ea] value: 1 value: 2. resulting in an error: [:sum :ea | Cannot store into ->sum := sum + ea] value: 1 value: 2. However, this example works without a problem in both 3.10.2 as well as 3.7. Any idea what's going on? Thanks, Phil

tabbing between fields

In a GUI I have several PluggableTextMorphs and I want to move the focus between them by striking the tab character. I couldn't figure out how to do this so I set breakpoints in the PluggableTextMorph methods: handlesKeyboard: keyStroke: onKeyStrokeSend: sel to: recipient but none of these breakpoints were reached. Then I tried putting a breakpoint in EventSensor>> processKeyboardEvent: but this lead me nowhere. Can anybody tell me how to tab between fields or where to find the documentation on how to do this. Mac VM 5.4b1 ships

I've push the latest cocoa based 32/64bit & 64/64bit macintel/powerpc VM 5.4b1 This includes the logic for the microsecond clock, to call the clock the change set is attached. I've also built the 64/64bit VM for Intel that works with 64bit squeak images. Look for the folder experimental/64bits in the regular places found via http://smalltalkconsulting.com/squeak.html or ftp://ftp.smalltalkconsulting.com/experimental/64bit/ or http://homepage.mac.com/johnmci/FileSharing.html click to experimental, 64bits In a sub folder the file names are: Squeak 64-32 5.4b1.app.zip or Squeak 64-64 5.4b1.app.zip This *beta* VM runs in 32 or 64 bit mode on macIntel, and 32bit mode on powerpc to support Squeak 32bit images. Includes the freetype plugin, and requires os-x 10.5 or higher. The *beta* 64/64 VM runs only in 64 bit mode on macIntel to support Squeak 64bit images. Thank you very much, Levente. Those instructions are delightful. We now have clear instructions for installing Seaside 3.0 in Squeak. I'll put install instructions on squeak.org in the next few days and then ask to change the link from seaside.st. Chris

Seaside + TDD

Hi everyone, I'm trying to develop using TDD with seaside 3.0, but honestly, I couldn't find any framework or package that works fine with it. I've tried Albatross and Seaside Testing, both of them work great with Seaside 2.8, but fails to run or even to load in seaside 3.0. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance. Mariano.

For example if one writes foo ifTrue: []. the compiler will emit that as foo, eliminating the branch around the empty block. So when that is decompiled it'll decompile as foo. and the compiler will then compile that as empty. So ... When you decompile the source code of the method containing foo ifTrue: [] it contains a parse node that prints as foo ifTrue: []. But the bytecode contains only the code for foo. so when you decompile that you get foo. and when you compile that you get no bytecode generated for foo. Other examples include cases where to:by:do: is decompiled as whileTrue:, where the precision of a written float exceeds the representation of underlying float objects, and so on. I don't see the point of fixing these things in either the compiler or the decompiler. They're legal Smalltalk, the optimizations the compiler performs is perfectly reasonable, and there seems no point in e.g. annotating the bytecode with information on the optimization so that the decompilation would be correct. Hence I think we have to live with the work-around which is filtering-out expected failures. Implementing the filter as a list is poor; better would be to have rules that match expected failures, but that's potentially a lot of tricky work for not much benefit. What would help is a) a simple tool to look at the discrepancies side-by-side (I have a workspace I can send you), and b) people who run the tests updating the filer-list with exceptions and documenting what causes each exception. I may be wrong, but I think you're asking the wrong people. And I don't know if you're aware, but your stepping into the widening gap between Pharo and Squeak. I think the answer to your question is either/or. Either you use 2.8 and the existing tools, or go to the Seaside and Pharo boards and ask about what the best set of tools are TDD in 3.0, which works in Pharo, but not in Squeak (at the moment).
