I'm using 4.1 and made a fix.
Usually, I would save it to a local repository, merge it in a trunk image,
and then upload it to the inbox. But I'm often in the middle of something
and not willing to do this.
Does it work if I just upload the version based on 4.1 to the inbox? Would
it help much if I check the changes between my fixed package and the trunk
version, and make sure there are no conflicts?
Thanks.

Here you have in the last part the code and the old rescued book.
Works in almost any Squeak, tested in trunk 10732.
Comes to us as I working on the revamp version of FunSqueak for Christmas
present from me to all good boys and girls around the world, so made a new
visit to dungeons and found it.
Again , gracias Leandro , Valeria, all in Buenos Aires for doing this in
1998.

For sometime I have been unable to do 'Update Squeak' from the latest trunk image on Mac, no matter which VM I was running on.
I had not been able to devote any time to the problem until now and I reported the issue: <http://bugs.squeak.org/view.php?id=7574>. The problem turns out to have been caused by an incorrect SqueakV41.sources file.
By luck while looking at where Syntax Error might be generated in order to place a self halt for further debugging, I got a warning saying that my SqueakV41.sources file was missing something, and suggested making sure it was treated as a binary file for initially expanding. I re-downloaded a new ftp://ftp.squeak.org/SqueakV41.sources.gz, expanded it normally and did a diff between what I had from a previous download and the newly expanded one. They were significantly different. Somewhere along the line I had downloaded the SqueakV41.sources file and had been treating it as the master on my system. Alas, there have been more than one version of SqueakV41.sources available for download with exactly the same name and the previously downloaded one did not allow for Update Squeak to work.
Using the newly downloaded SqueakV41.sources allowed the Update Squeak to proceed normally.
This bug should be set to 'Resolved'.
I am mentioning this here in order to potentially save someone else some grief.
Care needs to taken that more than one version of the SqueakV41.sources are not floating around causing weird things to occur.

Dear Smalltalkers,
Past few days I worked on WebSocket implementation in Swazoo Smalltalk
web server [1], in coordination with Philippe Marschall from Seaside [4]
and Nicolas Petton from Iliad [5] devteams, so together with me from
Aida/Web [3] our cooperation ensures that this implementation is ready
to be adapted for all three main web frameworks.
Why WebSocket? Because it will replace current Comet hacks to enable a
bidirectional messaging between browser and web application, specially
for web app to send something back to the browser without waiting for
user to click something. Read a bit more about WebSocket here:
http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/introducing-web-sockets/
WebSocket as browser supported technology enables opening an always
present channel, so that web app can send commands like update some
element of the webpage at any time. That's why WebSocket is ideal for so
called "real-time" web.
You are invited to look at the code for Squeak/Pharo as Swazoo2.3beta1.1
at http://www.squeaksource.org/Swazoo.html
A bit more about WebSocket in Swazoo:

Hi,
I've been chasing down a strange bug these past few days:
http://bugs.squeak.org/view.php?id=7569
The executive summary is this: when viewing a method in the debugger
that refers to an instvar deleted after the Debugger instantiated, the
CodePane shows the correct source for a fraction of a second, and then
goes blank.
What I'd expected to see was the source of the method rendered as per
usual, and the reference to the missing instvar coloured red, to
indicate a problem. (Just like what you'd see if you opened up a Browser
on the method.)
The CodePane goes blank because the Debugger's contents instvar is
nilled out.
CodeHolder>>setContentsToForceRefresh nils the instvar because
CodeHolder>>didCodeChangeElsewhere returns true.
That method returns true because the Debugger's currentCompiledMethod
instvar and the compiled method according to "aClass compiledMethodAt:
aSelector" aren't the same object.
And now I'm a bit stuck. I know the behaviour I'd expect, I know why the
bug's happening, but how do I fix it? Does CodeHolder (or Debugger) need
a better way of knowing whether the viewed method's changed? (For
instance, comparing the two CompiledMethods' asCommaString shows
identical contents.)

A new version of Tools was added to project The Inbox:
http://source.squeak.org/inbox/Tools-fbs.284.mcz

When a method changes out from under your feet in the Debugger (e.g., you remove an instvar triggering a recompile of a method through which you've stepped), the Debugger blanks out contents. In the UI, this manifests as a blank code pane.
This change resets the contents ivar by setting it to the new, recompiled, CompiledMethod as a side effect of calling self selectedMessage.
This version is Eliot Miranda's improved version of my (fbs) initial submission.

Hi everybody.
We want to announce that we've created a mailing list called "Smalltalk VM
Beginners" where all the people interested in VM can share knowledge. The
aim of this mailing list is create a good and positive energy and spread the
knowledge around the Squeak VM. If you always wanted to know something
on the VM but never dare to ask, join the mailing-list, may be we will not
know it but we will try hard to learn it together.
The idea is that we can help each other, welcome people to learn about the
VM, and increase and share the knowledge about it in the community.
Everybody can ask questions, everybody can help. This mailing list has more
or less the same idea of pharo-users or squeak-beginners.
Now, to clarify the objectives of the mailing list, we propose some
requirements:
- Be polite, respectful.
- No question is stupid and all questions are welcome. We welcome the most
basic questions someone can ask about the VM like, "is it written in C?"
"How can I download the code?"
- This mailing list should be useful for people that are just interested in
knowing a little about the VM, to those who want to know how certain things
are done, and specially for those that are learning about the VM because
they need to extend or modify it.
- If you have a heavy question, you will probably not get the answer in this
mailing-list but this is not a problem you can ask in the Squeak VM mailing
list.
- The idea is that we can help each other.
So, the link to the mailing list is:

Address: vm-beginners(a)lists.squeakfoundation.org.

Ken Brown contact me via Skype, sorry the time difference but he should
found the response when connect.
Seems some have troubles with updating the trunk, but not me.
Yes with FunSqueak4.2Cog, but it have lots of different projects into , so
no surprise.
A couple of days ago I start rebuilding again , and could say load nicely
muO.257.sar (thanks Stephanne).
Also in a separate fresh 10572 loads Morphic UI Designer.
The news is .pr now seems to load.
The FIND button of golden navigator still have troubles, but here i attach a
solution.
Please some guy review and put into trunk, see original mail.
As usual, you could argue me, chat on IRC or face to face on Skype as
edgardec.
I stay connected when weather let¹s me, Austral Summer is coming with plus
32 ºC in advance...
